When I connect my Samsung galaxy s9 to my car thru the usb port android auto works fine. If my wife then connects her iPhone to the second usb port in the car (just to charge her phone) it will disconnect my android auto and connect her apple CarPlay. How do i stop this?

Hi Mitch,
I would like to help you troubleshoot. Please share the following information:
  • Version of Android OS on your phone
  • Version of Android Auto on your phone
  • What brand, model, year do you have?
  • Are you receiving any error messages?

Android 9 (pie)
Android Auto 4.3591854-release
2019 Subaru Ascent
No error messages...apple CarPlay just overrides and disconnects the Android Auto.

Hi, again Mitch,

I reported the issue yesterday to the team. What I was told that the car manufacturers have the car's audio programmed to automatically switch when a second phone is connected. The team will still be working on coming up with a solution. I will provide them with your additional information too. Thanks for providing it because it will be helpful to the Android Auto team as they troubleshoot.

In my experience second phone over ride only works if Car Play Phone is connected second.  If Android Auto phone is connected second, it does not switch, it does not bring up Android Auto.

Hi, in my Sync3 I can manually disable AA or Carplay so that they do not auto-launch when the phone is connected. Look for this feature in your headunit system, there might be an option like this.

Hey everyone,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. As our Product Expert, KimBeasleyPE, said, our team will be following up with car manufacturers to see if there might be a solution to this experience.
We'd like to ask you to try and disable Apple CarPlay on your phone device to see if the workaround resolves the experience. It isn't the best solution, but as both apps are interfering with each other we may ask you to either disable one or the other to see if it resolves the issue. Please follow the instructions below and let us know if the issue persists.
Disable Apple CarPlay:
  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Screen Time.
  3. Tap Content & Privacy restrictions.
  4. Tap Allowed Apps.
  5. Switch CarPlay off.

Same issue on my 2018 Outback. Apple's Car Play overrides my Android auto.

Same with the 2020 Ascent, as well.  Any insight as to why this may be happening?

This happens on my 2018 brz as well. Sounds like Subaru prefers Apple 😞

I have a pixel 3 with the latest Android version, she has a xr iPhone with whatever version of iOS that is current.

Same issue with my Subaru Crosstrek 2018. Is the most annoying thing ever. I can never hear music when I'm with my girlfriend because when she connects her iPhone it overwrites my android in my head unit and as we all know iPhones always have 3-5% battery life sooo she always connects it.

Same experience with '19 Forester. We attempted to "Forget" the car in CarPlay but Apple still automatically reconnects and starts CarPlay
