Unable to make phone call on Android Auto after OS update to Android 11

Since Android 11 was released I am not able to make phone calls with Android Auto. It seems like it will work, I say the contact info, Google as "calling" but it goes right back to playing music without connecting the phone call. When I disconnect AA the phone call is then made as soon as it is disconnected.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the reports. We want to confirm if you have the ‘Screen saver’ setting enabled on your phone. If yes, try disabling screen saver off by following the steps below. Please let us know if disabling it fixes the problem when placing outbound calls. Thanks!

Open your phone's Settings app.
Tap Display > Advanced > Screen saver.
While on the screen saver settings, tap When to start. If you don't see "When to start," tap More > When to start.
Set to "Never"

This is happening to me too. I upgraded to 11 and when I placed a call via voice yesterday it appeared to work as expected other than the call was never placed and it went back to my podcast. When I parked my car 10 minutes later and disconnected from Android Auto the call was placed and it surprised me. I spent about a half hour this morning trying to sort out the issue but I'm at a loss. I repaired my phone with Bluetooth but that didn't seem to help either. I drive a 2019 Subaru Forester with factory unit. Prior to upgrading to 11 Android Auto and Bluetooth worked splendidly. Now it's one or the other.

Same problem regarding call being routed through the Pixel rather than AA. Unpredictable when it will happen - but it's ~20% of the time I receive or make a phone call. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, cleared caches, factory reset AA on the car an my Pixel 4a, turned off screen saver, disabled bluetooth, changed USB cables, sacrificed virgin chickens under a full moon...

Able to receive call through android auto.

when command is given like "call titi" assistant replies 'calling titi' but then nothing.

I am using a Tata Tiago Bs6 model for the past 6 months now. My phone is Samsung Galaxy S10 plus. Whenever I try to connect a call via voice command through Android auto, it doesn't connect the call, the screen just freezes on the contact name.

The system got a update last month but still the issue remains.

Please resolve it as soon as possible.

I'm having the same issue with my Pixel 5 and 2021 Kia Telluride.

When connected phone calls both incoming and outgoing do not function.

Having the same issues. Screen freezes after dialing or says its making the call but nothing happens or it disconnects from AA to my phone while driving or i can't be heard on call. Also having issues receiving text message, WhatsApp and Messenger notifications. I also found that when they did come through then it wouldn't play them. I'd press play then get a long silence and then asked if i want to reply to a message i haven't heard.

Still having the same issue. The GPS is also giving problems and is constantly "offline". This makes commuting using GPS practically worthless.

same problem kia sportage now on Android 11 if check application permissions, contact permissions is ckecked enabled, but in phone-call

permissions is not allowed to choose able-disable

Same problem with OnePlus 9 Pro and Volkswagen T-Roc. When I try to place the call from Android Auto or from the car infotainment system, nothing happens. Once I unplug the phone from USB, the call starts (even if it was made several minutes earlier).

Also, calls correctly work when launched through the phone dialer (Google dialer).

I have the same with Kia Rio 66 plate and Samsung A70 with android 11 upgrade pain in the backside. Can you hurry up please?
