I have a Galaxy S8 and a 2019 Mazda CX9. I am not exactly sure what is happening, but the phone is disconnecting from the car several times an hour. I am utilizing Android Auto and have the phone connected via charging cord. Things will start out ok - listening to Castbox, Audible, utilizing Maps - then the screen will go black and the connection is lost; the car's audio electronic system gives a general error message like "disconnected". 

I have freed up some memory on my phone, bought a new charging cable, and restart my phone often. To remedy the issue, I unplug and replug in the cable to the phone. This usually establishes the re-connection almost immediately. Some days are worse than others- sometimes 10+ crashes in an hour, sometimes less, which tells me it isn't necessarily the physical connection...I wiggle the cord at the connection points, and it does not necessarily induce a disconnection (contacts still good).

When this happens and I look at the phone, there is no indication that anything has crashed- It looks as if Android Auto is still running ok. But I can't tell if the app is frozen...??    SUPER annoying.

I have the app set to download updates automatically (on a any network - not just wifi only).

Also, there is a lot to be desired for the functionality of apps that are utilized by Android Auto (e.g. can we get a skip 10 or 30 second option on Castbox or Audible?!?!) That's a different rant for another day.

Any help you can give on the disconnection issue would be appreciated. Thank you.

Same issue on a 2014 Mazda 3 with infotainment.  I noticed that every restart is when it is trying to give a notification from messages, a voice prompt, or navigation directions.  Basically, anytime it tries to play audio through the speakers.  I was able to at least lessen the disconnects by using the "play through phone speaker" option in Waze.  Waze>settings>Voice & Sound> Play sound to phone speaker.

Discouraging to see another Mazda having an issue, although it does not sound like the same issue.

No sure, how do I find out?

I went to settings> software info> Android Version 9   (is that what you were alluding to?)
