Google Pixel calls will no longer come through the car speakers via Android Auto

We purchased a 2023 Honda Accord about 1 month ago.

I have a Google Pixel 7 Pro and my wife has the Google Pixel 7a.

Android Auto worked great up until now.

Yesterday out of no where BOTH my wife and I have lost the ability for call audio via Android Auto.

When our phones are connected, everything else works perfectly as normal. Google Maps and Music as well as the voice assistant audio is coming through the car speakers as normal.

However, if we make or receive a call there is no audio and the person on the other end of the call cannot hear us either. The only work around (which is very dangerous) is to have to use the car touch screen to switch the call to the handset and then the Audio is there on my phone itself. But it never comes through the car speakers now.

We have tried rebooting both our phones and the car, unpairing and deleting the devices from both our car and our phones and repairing them to the car. This has not worked.

Our phones are both up to date with Android 14, Android Auto is up to date, and our vehicle is up to date on all software updates.

Seems like quite the bug, considering it happened to both our phones. Same issue.

Same issue. Pixel 5, connecting and reconnecting the phone via USB is the only thing I've found that resolved it temporarily.

Same issue here on a pixel 8 pro and Skoda Enyaq. Have been onto support who just offer the same reset, reboot options which never work. Should never have sold my Samsung S21 which was a better phone in every way. Would NEVER ever buy another pixel pile of junk.

same issue with pixel pro 9 fold and bmw i7.
It is crazy that this simple requirement cannot work.
Is working fine on my galaxy z fold 6 but onlu on pixel there is this problem.

Is there a resolution to this?

Same issue with a Pixel 8.
Can dial the phone, people can hear me, but I can't hear them.
Same issue with Android Auto in a 2017 Civic.
Same issue with Android Auto head unit I have in my convertible Mini Cooper.

Same issue NOW with Android Auto head unit MMI box in a 2017 Mini Clubman JCW.

Seems like the Pixel phone is the common denominator here.

Try going to settings in your car audio and switch the ring tone some thing other then phone ringtone

Is there any update on this?

I believe a lot of people are facing the same issue with the Pixel series (mine is Pixel 9 Pro XL) & Volkswagen/Skoda cars (mine is Volkswagen Virtus).

This bug is driving me insane, almost crashed my car during a conference call that decided to go through my phone speaker rather than the car speaker mid conversation.

Someone please help!!

Same with my pixel 9pro xl. But it works on my wife's pixel 7. It switches to phone speaker within a few minutes. Updated Feb 2025 software update and also updated android auto. Still the problem exist!! Really frustrated.

How can this still be a problem...
Got the Pixel 8 Pro and have the same malfunction. Google Team should work on it instantly!
How can you leave your own customers hanging?
If it's not resolved in due time I gotta change Phone, cannot leave my clients with an unanswered call every time.

Same issue with a MB OEM Headunit............used to work perfectly with my Pixel 3 now "upgraded" to a Pixel 8a and will not work. Have tried everything that I can short of wiping the phone and starting again.

The biggest issue is not that there is an issue it is that no-one at G seems to give a rats about this. Maybe we should all warranty return the phones and then maybe someone will pay attention? I doubt it though Google are good when nothing goes wrong and rubbish when you actually need a human to assist with an issue.

I just recently updated to a Google pixel 9 and I have a 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz Ultimate. I use a cable to connect my phone to android auto and text messages work through my vehicle speakers but the phone calls are a hit an miss. Sometimes it will come through the vehicle speakers but more often than not it it only through my phone and i can't hear the other person nor can they really hear me. Prior to this phone I had a Samsung Galaxy S2 ultra and never had this issue. My android auto is up to date and my pixel phone is android 15

Any suggestions?

It has not been resolved. I have Android 15 running on my pixel 8 pro. When I receive a phone call, the person that is calling me cannot hear me. My fix is to unplug the USB cable from the phone, and change the voice to the speaker on the phone. Most of the times I do not get this done fast enough and the call hangs up. And then I call them back.

Pixel 9 pro xl here and this is happening to me as well but only when receiving calls. I can make calls and everything works fine. When I receive them I have to use the screen to transfer call to the handset

Same problem with Pixel 7a. Sound from phone calls is not coming out of the car (but through the phone), even though setting on the phone points to bluetooth (car). This is happening when doing a phone call from within Android Auto as wel as the 'standard' connection to a car (without Android Auto). Problem started after the upgrade to Android 15. And is happening in two cars (which I'm able to check) from a different brand.

Any advice on how to quickly solve it?

I can hereby confirm this issue is "not resolved" on the February Security Update even though the changelog states that Google has addressed this issue for Pixel Series phone.

Same issue on Pixel 8 as of yesterday. Skoda Enyaq Coupe 85, latest updates on both phone and car. Android Auto wired or wireless connects fine, but no sound on phone calls!

I started having this issue since February 2025 update. Tried to get some assistance by Google but they only give you standard procedures to reset Bluetooth and WiFi which don't work at all.
