Google Assistant doesn't work with Spotify in Android Auto

When I ask Google Assistant to play anything while connected to Android Auto, it responds with, "Playing _______ on Spotify. Sorry something went wrong. Please try opening Spotify to continue."

This behavior only presents while using Android Auto. If I'm not connected to Android Auto, it works properly (phone's speaker, headphones, Nest Mini)

I'm using a Pixel 6. I also have a Pixel 6 work phone, and it behaves the same way.

I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling Spotify, unlinking/relinking Spotify from Google Assistant, clearing cache/storage from Android Auto, clearing cache/storage from Google Assistant.

EDIT: (Added Support Info)
  • Error message: Assistant verbally says, "Sorry something went wrong. Please try opening Spotify to continue." There are no toast notifications or other error indicators. Songs just refuse to play via voice command.
  • Were you able to connect to Android Auto prior to the issue? The issue isn't connection to Android Auto. I've tried two different Pixel 6 phones in both wired and wireless configurations, and both behave the same way with Spotify and Google Assistant within Android Auto. This only occurs when connected to Android Auto.
  • Car / head unit make & model: 2015 Hyundai Sonata wired AA, as well as an AAWireless adapter.
  • Phone make & model: Pixel 6 and another Pixel 6
  • Android OS version: One is TQ1A.230205.001D2, the other is T2B3.230109.004
  • Android Auto app version: 8.8.630424 on the first, the other is 9.0.130744
  • Google Play services version: 23.05.14 on the first, the other is 23.06.16
  • Locale: US

EDIT: Feb 25, 2023 I took my work phone off of QPR2 and factory reset it. After I set it up as a new phone (didn't copy anything), I only updated Google apps and installed Spotify. Same result.

I've tested it in a Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima, and a Mazda CX-5. All behave the same way. It works fine outside of AA.

Same issue

When I ask voice assistant in my Android Auto to play an specific song or artist on spotify, the assistant reply "Something went grown, try opening Spotify to continue" and doesnt change the song.

I already reinstall, clear cache, clear data and reconnect both Spotify and Android Auto.

Error message: Something went grown, try opening Spotify app to continue.

Are you using Android Auto on your phone screen or car´s display? Car’s display.

Does the issue occur outside of Android Auto App? No

Same issue here.
Info:
Phone:
OnePlus 9 Pro
OxygenOS 13.0 LE2123_11_F.74

Spotify:
Premium
Version 8.8.23.545

Android Auto:
Version 9.0.630813-release
Volkswagen Passat 2017

Steps tried:
Phone:
* Rebooted
* Can't do any updates since it is on the latest version

Spotify:
* Signed out/in again
* Cleared data/cache
* Make sure any battery optimization is turned off
* Downgraded app to version: 8.8.6.472

Android Auto:
* Cleared data/cache
* Removed car
* Tried another car (Volkswagen ID3)
* Tried another phone to verify it hasn't anything to do with the car itself
* Changed cable

I did try an older OnePlus 6 (that hasn't been updated for a about a year) and that worked, so the cabe works for sure.
