How to set default audio player

I have 2 audio players that I use with Android Auto. 1 is a podcast player (Podcast Addict) and the other is a music player (Poweramp). When I start up Android Auto, I would really like for the default player to be my podcast player. However, no matter what I try, the music player is always shown at the bottom. When Android Auto is set to start music automatically, my music player is the one that is chosen.

Under the Assistant Settings, there is an option to set your default music player. Neither of the above 2 are listed as options. So I have mine configured to No default provider.

I have downloaded an app called Default App Manager. For Audio, I changed this to my podcast player. This setting had no effect.

Even when I am using my podcast player > stop the car > Restart Android Auto, it almost always reverts back to the music player!

I had this problem with my old phone (Android 10) and my new phone (Pixel 7 Pro - Android 13).

I cannot find anywhere else to set the default player. Is there a way to set this? How is Android picking the music player by default?

Hi, Kevin, I'm not sure why you are not seeing the option to set your preferred default Podcast Adict player. Have you tried just say "Hey Google play Podcast Adict".
I'm not familiar with either of your preferred music/podcast apps but you may find the solution in their settings.
If you go into the AA app Phone settings>apps>AA>Open by default>open supported links - ensure the slider is on. This might have a beneficial effect.
I hope this is helpful.

Hi Kevin, a further thought, Go into your AA app again as previously described>google assistant>podcasts>you can choose the service you want.
I hope this helps, I'm interested in seeing a solution to your problem, do post here again & let us know how you get on.
Cheers

Thanks. Under Podcasts, there are only 2 services available to link, and PA is not one of them. I already have open supported links set to on for AA. The Hey Google option works from my phone. I will try it in my car later. Thanks.

Another observation. From my car, if I just use Bluetooth to connect to my radio instead of AA and I am playing PA. If I pause or stop the podcast, my phone switches back to the music player.

Hi kevin, you should bear in mind Bluetooth only carries the Hands Free Protocol phone functions & SMS. Everything else goes via WiFi or the USB cable.
Cheers
