  • Error message: either no error message application crashes or stops responding error message
  • Car / head unit make & model: Hyundai Elantra 2017
  • Phone make & model: blu vivo xi+
  • Android OS version (Settings > About phone): 9
  • Android Auto app version (Settings > Apps > Android Auto): 4.7.5938
  • Google Play services version (Settings > Apps > Google Play services): 19.5.30

right after getting this new android auto update neither pandora, waze and google maps are usable
i have already spoken with waze team and they were not able to find anything on their end
when i try to open waze application it crashes immediately and does not open it, clicking a second time it would give the error message that phone stopped responding.

opening google maps along with pandora that opens automatically, i will be able to use the GPS for sometime then randomly the music will stop, google maps will crash and the touch screen of the car become unresponsive, i have to disconnect the mobile from the charging cable, clear the background apps and reconnect the mobile to get again andorid auto to work on the car, this happens constantly every 10min-15minutes

i have noticed also that the gps will constantly try to locate and/or get a signal i can see this because the normal arrow on it switches to a dot which stops moving while im driving

the above is the latest android auto application ( 4.7.5938 )

now i uninstall it (4.7.5938) and reinstall a earlier version ex: 4.5.5928 which was released on August 1, 2019, i have no issues at all and everything works smoothly waze, google maps, pandora, etc.

unfortunately, the moment i disconnect the device and i get home android auto auto updates immediately to version 4.7.5938, honestly i never had such complains but this is really frustrating and dangerous having to fix android auto while driving just so i can use the GPS and music.

for heaven sake before releasing an update make sure you test in different ways, the quality control on this release was literally trash and should be rolled back.

ps - dont comment stating to upgrade everything to the latest software updates as in this case obviously is giving more issues than previous versions

Same here... Waze is completely useless. I even did a HARD RESET just in case it was a third party app. Didn't help. Waze works most of the time if my phone isn't locked. When it locks after 3 minutes, real time updates on Waze stop, even though it's plugged into my UConnect head unit via USB cable. As soon as I unlock the phone, Waze real time updates work... Until it locks again. Google Maps works perfectly no matter what condition my phone is in.

Same here as well. Only, for me, my Vauxhall Astra does not give me any screen. Downgrade to older version everything is fine but, as the original poster, it updates automatically at night. This is really frustrating.

When is the next update that I hope will resolve this?

It was working for awhile on the latest AA update 4.8... nice layout etc. This is for my Subaru XV/Crosstrek 2018. Now it has stopped completely. I just bought the Anker cable and test it again. Still does not detect AA. AHA and Subaru Starlink is working as normal.

Same problem here. Exact same symptoms using 3 different brand new cables, 2 different phones (Samsung s9 and Google pixel 2 xl) in 2019 Hyundai Tucson.  For God sakes Google FIX THIS ALREADY!

Similar Issues here:

* Samsung Galaxy S8+ on Android 9.0
* VW Golf 7.5 

Everything was working fine under 4.6.
After upgrading to 4.8 Waze became completely unusable. 
I then downgraded to 4.7, but apparently the bug had already been introduced.
I then went back to 4.6 and everything worked fine again .....

AA 4.8.594324 (sideloaded) fixed Waze GPS bug for me when Play Services was still 19.5.30 but broke when Play Services updated to 19.6.29 on 12-Nov-2019 10:41:23AM GMT +8. As I always received update late (that's why I sideloaded AA), I wonder if others already facing the same issue was already on Play Services 19.6.29.

Is anyone from Google even looking into this?  Of all the countless complaints all over the internet I have not ONCE seen Google admit to the problem And at least tell us they are working on it !

I have same issue with Samsung S9+ and 2018 Ford Explorer. I am running Google Play Services 19.6.29 and Waze has been broken since 10-29-2019.

I have a 2018 GMC Yukon and Galaxy S9+. AA was not working properly for since around the end of Dec. 2019--crashing, laggy, would not launch--, then after downloading the last AA update thinking this would solve the issue, things got a whole lot worse.  It stopped launching to my GMC's screen from my phone (via USB) altogether, at all. I searched various sites and tried various "fixes" and even differend apps (none of the other apps would launch to the screen either). 

Here is what I did to get it to work finally:

I started out in my vehicle with it running. Uninstalled AA from my phone (again, done this many times, the last time I did "Clear the cache and clear data" so I'm unsure if this was helpful? might be worth trying- under storage in the app itself before you uninstall it) and the other app I was still trying to get use from & also failed. I rebooted my phone. I went to the settings on my GMC screen itself. There is a setting actually for AA in my GMC's system. I turned AA OFF. Then shut down my vehicle. Gave it a min or so. While I was waiting I once again downloaded AA to my phone from the Playstore. I started my vehicle back up. Went back to the settings in the GMC Screen and turned the AA back to "ON". The phone may have started asking me about a trial version of AA or something to I think I said "no thanks".
I launched the AA I downloaded from the Playstore by plugging in my phone via USB and it finally appeared on my screen under the Projection tab where it always used to be. Ok getting closer, now....will it load & be useful? I tapped it and whoh! It loaded too. Tried Pandora and Amazon Music, they both opened and played. Hopefully this will help someone else who has been having trouble since both or either the last AA update and or/last S9 Security updates, I tried a lot of settings and things that got me no where. I could not get to an older version of AA, my phone would let me download it, but it would not let me open the program to use it. Good luck. My fingers are crossed this keeps working.....
