Pixel 4 connection On Ford F150

Can't connect.

I bought a pixel 4. I was under the impression it would work to setup Android auto wirelessly on my 2018 f150. So far no luck. In addition, the new charger for pixel 4 is a dual USB type C, so I can't connect that in to my truck USB port. My old USB A to USB C cord that I used with my Galaxy s8 doesn't work either. What can I do besides looking into different cables or adaptors?

Update as of 10/31/19 ---
Just spent another hour on the phone with Google Pixel support this morning and at a high level, things still aren't working, but they recognize there is an issue and they're working to resolve it.

A few updates on my end. Using the feedback a few of you have left and following a few other threads like this reddit one, I've now at least have been able to see "flickers" of the android auto display on my vehicles screen. I won't detail all the steps since it still would lead you down a path of things not working, but the 2 main things I did were 1) when the pixel is plugged in, I set the USB preference in the notifications bar to file transfer / android auto since it doesn't do this by default and 2) I disabled developer options which were enable by a google support person on my first call with them (this might not be enabled on your device). However, like a few other people have mention the selection of 'File transfer / android auto' won't stay selected and will go back to the default selection every time.

Hopefully, this issue gets resolved soon. A disappointing start to the Pixel 4.

Update as of March 2020 ---
My issue has been resolved!! 6 months and it's finally fixed.

With that said, I fear my solution isn't going to be the solution for everyone since mine ended up being solved by Ford service and I know most people didn't have a Ford.

For the people who do have ford issues, here is how I got my pixel 4 to work. I took my F150 2018 Lariat to Ford service and they ran "Fords diagnosis steps" and they found that one of the Sync modules failed the hardware test. They ordered the new part and today they replaced it and as soon as they did that everything worked for me!

The technician said "There was recently another documented case from Ford on a similar concern." so I'm sure there are more pixel/ford owners who are having this problem.

I hope this helps someone and best of luck to everyone else!

I was initially disheartened to see the steps the community specialist (Paul) posted to resolve the issue. They are all things I had tried before.  Well, except for the last step of clearing the data and cache from the three different apps.  That worked for me!  Good luck to everyone else in resolving this, stick with it.  Hopefully the cache/data wipes will do the trick.

I also can't get my pixel 4 to work with Android auto. I'm sure a standard USB c to USB a cable is fine for the data transfer but it doesn't show as plugged in.

Just received the January 2020 security update to my Pixel 4 today. After the installation I deleted the cache and storage for the android auto and google apps. Issue still persists for me unfortunately. 3 months now without a service I used every day flawlessly on my Pixel 2.

Has anyone else had success getting a reply in January?

I haven't received any update on this and my current plan is to head over to my local ford dealer and work with their service department to rule out this being an issue specific to the make/model/head unit on my truck.

Obviously, everything worked just fine on my truck with my S8, but since my wife's S10 also doesn't work on my truck now, by my pixel does work on her KIA, then I'm left needing to rule out that it has something to do with my vehicle.

I plan on trying to plug my phone into another 2018 F150 Lariat to see if I can get it to work. Ford support believed it was possible it could be caused by my Ford Sync 3 not being updated, but I know most people in this thread don't have a Ford, so trust me when I say I know this is still a Google issue. I'm just trying to find a solid direction to pursue, so this is just one more thing to cross of the list after it inevitably doesn't work.

I've been keeping a close eye on this.. I now have Android Auto working everytime with this annoying but useful workaround. 1. Connect the usb to the phone and car (nothing happens on the car screen). 2. Unlock the phone and send a text message to myself. The notification then comes up on the phone and suddenly Android Auto appears on the car screen with the notification and it works fine afterwards. Hope this helps for anyone having issues.

The only work around i have is:
connect phone to car
double click USB connection notification in drop down on phone
change to transfer

Unfortunately you have to do this every time

After 10 years I finally get a pure google device like I always wanted and was surprised to see a native app not work. No issues on any previous androids with android auto.

I just purchased a Pixle 4 and was disappointed to learn it came wiht the USB-c charger.  I had to buy the USB converter from Google ($20) to make it work in my car with Android Auto.  The car dealer told me that the cable that connects to the USB connection in my car had to be from the same mfg of my phone and he was correct.  Other converters didn't work, but the one from google did. My Android Auto is now working great

So the $3 dollar store cord worked for me!!!! Hard to believe it's this complicated and can't use any cord or original with adapter

If this is the go forward it's clear who the winner is. Apple. Same situation. 2018 f150 pixel 4. I'm out and it easier to turn in my  3 day old phone than my truck. And I have and run million dollar systems for a living. This eco system isn't sustainable.
