Google assistant call defaults to speaker when on Android auto.

First time I see this issue. Maybe someone can help.

When I call using Google assistant as I am using Android auto the call connects but it defaults to the phone speaker instead of using the car Bluetooth.

If I make the call from the app on Android auto or receive a call it does default to Bluetooth as expected, it is only when using Google assistant that it defaults to the phone speaker.

I could not find a setting anywhere where I can tell the phone app or Google assistant to default to Bluetooth if connected.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the feedback. The Assistant team has rolled out a fix for this issue. Please update your Google app to the latest version, which should solve the issue. Thanks!

Same issue here, 2017 Subaru Impreza Limited, Pixel 6, Android 12 latest build. When I dial from Android Auto it says "Calling XX on Speakerphone. Works normally through car handsfree while connected to Android Auto if I initiate the call from the phone rather than Android Auto.

Same issue. Subaru. Android auto version 7.3.620524-release.

Tried multiple restarts (including car) and cables. Have tried updating the app. Have not tried uninstalling updates as of yet. When calls are received, Android Auto will work properly - and audio comes through the car's speakers. When calls are placed through the car "dumb" manual input (Bluetooth) using my phone wirelessly, they will also work properly. When done via voice command, or from the Android auto interface, audio and dialing tones will happen on my phone.

I'm having this issue as well. It started within the last week I believe. I'm initiating the call by holding down the button on the steering wheel to launch Google Assistant, saying "Call XXX". I hear Google Assistant respond with "Calling XXX" and then it goes to my speaker phone.
