Any plans for android auto in portrait mode?

I just got a 2022 Subaru Outback with a great big screen in it, and am super disappointed to see android auto displayed in a little tiny blurry/horizontal window only.  My questions are...

1. Are there plans to support a portrait mode on these screens at all?
2. Why are there so many locked threads on this subject already?  Who is locking them???

I am growing more and more frustrated with google by the day.  It may be time to move on.

At this point, I am just looking for answers.

Hi Danny,

Thanks for reaching out to us. What you describe is the intended behavior by the car manufacturer, and here’s a video from Subaru you can refer to. We recommend you to contact Subaru customer support if you have more questions on this topic.

Thanks,

The Android Auto team

Thanks for that answer.

If that is indeed true, then google as a large powerful company could put a little pressure on those manufacturers, and perhaps provide some assistance to get android auto looking, and working on-par with competitors.

Additionally, I would love to know how/why these threads get locked and closed, as I think there are further valuable discussions that could take place around the original questions, or suggestions.

In the end, I don't care if it's google, or subaru (in my case) who is at fault.  All I know is I paid lots of money to both for products and services.  I am not demanding anything, but I am very serious about switching to the competitor...which I DESPISE, but it slowly becoming the least of all evils.

I don't mind who's fault is.  My Samsung Galaxy S21 lease is ending in few months, and my next phone will be an iphone because of this.

Since the issue with Apple Car Play was resolved with a head unit update it stands to reason that Subaru indeed is the one who pulls the strings on this issue.  This is not a complicated programming issue and I am very disappointed that Subaru and Google cannot work together to make, what, about 50% of their clients happier.

Not happy about this either. I just got a 2022 Outback and this is ridiculous.

Take some ownership and leadership, listen to your customers and just and fix it Google

Aashi -

What you are reporting is expected functionality of ANDROID AUTOs UI/UX compatibility with Subaru Outback's screen display vs Subaru Outback's compatibility with android auto.

Although not a defect, this is a feature enhancement by Google/android auto product to support Subaru Outback's screen display.

I would advise you reach out to your product team according for your PO/PM to groom in a future release.  Its clear a close competitor has beat you to this sprint.

Thank you,
Ben

Can anyone write down something and post on change.com? I think a petition for change IS the way to go. I will gladly sign it. And I personally find it inappropriate to change phone for a lack of software update from Google... i admit that I considered it though 😅

I gave my Pixel 6 to my wife and switched to iphone only because of this. 74 yrs old and only ever used android phones. My wife's next phone will probably also be an iphone. I blame this on Google not Subaru and waited for a year for a fix. With Google my Ascent which has a smaller screen than my Legacy has a larger map. With iphone problem solved.

Just contacted Subaru on Twitter and they stated it's an android problem.

I've also mentioned that either way, the bottom should be customizable!

I have been looking at buying a new car with a large screen and I use Google Maps all day and you can't get it to display in full screen. Ver annoyed. But like everyone else, I may have to change to Apple iPhone

Please fix this. This summer, I am considering iPhone because of this and the big phone only problem of my pixel 6 and pro. Been pixel and nexus user for 10 years. Hate this crap from Google.

I agree with the people above. I just got a 2022 Subaru Outback and they said it's Google and the Android Auto team who need to come with an update just like the Apple Carplay team. Also being a Pixel user since Pixel 2, it's quite frustrating to not be able to use my Google device with my car.
