If you’ve been using the Android Auto app on your phone screen, you’ll need to switch to Google Assistant’s driving mode, a new integrated driving experience. If your car is compatible with Android Auto, you can still connect directly to your car’s display.  Learn about other ways Google is ready to make your drive better.

Spotify causes infotainment restart

Hello,

I am dealing with this bug while using Spotify, where my infotanment unit (Skoda Fabia 3 2016) crashes and restarts after while. It varies from time to time, but I noticed it often happens when I skip songs a lot. First sound stops working (music is still continuing), then infotainment crashes. I tried unplugging and plugging the phone back in during this "sound mute freeze" before crash, and it didnt help, it was still muted and lead to crash anyway.

This tent me to believe a problem is either with AA or Spotify as it persists even after reconecting the phone.

Thanks

Same problem for me - VW Polo 2016 (uses the same infotainment system as Skoda and Seat vehicles). Has persisted on Nexus 6P, Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and HTC 10, so it isn't a issue isolated to the phone. Sometimes the music is "playing" but no audio comes out initially, sometimes skipping a track/changing playlist will cause that to occur.

Another issue that seems to be happening more often recently is that the device will "connect", but then I will have a complete black screen, until the infotainment system eventually crashes, and then restarts.

But the most irritating bug by far is sometimes when it gets connected as Android Auto, MirrorLink appears. No. You will not show me MirrorLink. I'd rather use the default VW system, thank you very much.

Must also note my partner has used CarPlay on her iPhone 5S, and more recently 7, in the same car and has never had a SINGLE bug. Everything works flawlessly, Spotify has no playback issues, no black screen and crashes.

Fact is CarPlay just work flawlesly on my unit. When I plug a phone in, it opens the CarPlay immediately, I havent seen any launching problems. Another thing CarPlay does better is voice recognition and AI. You can talk to it about various topics and it gives you answers. Ask it what weather is in London and it gives it to you.

Meanwhile when I connect my phone Nexus 5 to the car, it will show a message it connected to the car, but it stays at the Smartlink menu (Chose between Android Auto or Mirrorlink or settings), I have to press Android Auto to actually opens. Sometimes it opens AA right away.

Even though Google has really impressive voice software, what is in AA feels like barebone alpha version of it. It doesnt give you feedback as CarPlay does about various topics, you have to put specified questions about AA manipulation.

Hi, same issue here. 2016 Skoda Octavia and Motorola Moto G, Galaxy S4 mini and now Galaxy S6. When it asks for Mirrorlink it helps to disconnect the phone, force quit AA and reconnect.
When Sound is not working, disconnect phone, disable Bluetooth and reconnect...this will re-enable Bluetooth and Sound is working again.
I couldn't figure out what triggers the crash of the infotainment system (Amundsen), but it happens once in a while.

Still a lot of flaws and stuff you have to deal with, while you're driving.

Same problem here, Android 6.0.1, Xperia Z series, Skoda Rapid Spaceback 2016...

More details : it looks like that google music app is more stable : It does not make the headunit restart but sometimes it plays audio from the phone speaker (instead of bluetooth) just after a call. With third party media apps (I'm using the Radio Paradise app) headunit will reboot easily. So I think there is an issue with most 3rd party implementations of media apps. Can be a design or SDK issue.  Really a shame that major companies (Google, VW, Spotify) can't fix this.
