Skype calling on Android Auto

Please could someone tell me how to start a Skype call on AA.

On apple Carplay, you just say "call John on Skype" and it makes the Skype app call. I have been unable to do this on AA.

I am using a Nexus4.

All other functions on AA works really well.

@Markus, Skype text messaging is enabled for Android Auto but voice calling is not. AA only has integration APIs for messaging and media apps.

Peter, thank you for your response.

This is very disappointing as I use Skype a lot. Apple CarPlay can make Skype and Whatsapp calls which is currently causing me to seriously consider moving from android to apple. Some people may think this is a bit drastic but my priority is to find a communication solution (Skype and Whatsap calls included) which can be operated without the need to touch my phone. The police are cracking down on in car phone use and it is just not safe. So far, Apple car play offers the best comms functionality if voice activation is a priority.

Any particular reason why AA can't enable voice calling on Skype and Whatsap too?

Good news Markus -- this is on our roadmap and we definitely want to enable Skype and other "VOIP" calling. Stay tuned for more updates in coming quarters.

Chris,

Thank you for your feedback. Any chance you could be a bit more specific on which quarter it is currently planned for? Not looking for guarantees, just an estimate if all goes according to plan.

Many thanks
Markus

Is there any update on whatsapp voice calls or voice message support? I am having trouble when people are unable to send me txt but can send voice and it not being supported.
