If you’ve been using the Android Auto app on your phone screen, you’ll need to switch to Google Assistant’s driving mode, a new integrated driving experience. If your car is compatible with Android Auto, you can still connect directly to your car’s display.  Learn about other ways Google is ready to make your drive better.

Play Music on Android Auto

Up until last week 25 August, I was able to ask Android auto to play music, suddenly it no longer works, for example if I say play Madonna or play music , Android auto states "I can't display search results in the car"

As I said it was working perfectly up until 25 August, I contacted Spotify and they said it's not an issue with Spotify, I looked on line people seem to having same problem with other music apps. But can not find a solution anywhere.

I have tweeted about it to Google and have received no reply from them or a fix.

I have uninstalled Spotify and Android Auto nothing changed and I have given Spotify full permissions under app settings.

Commands work fine under OK Google just not in Android Auto.

There is no update on my car and my HTC One plus 5T is fully updated.

I would be grateful for a fix as it was great to be able to change songs or albums without having to stop the car.

I'm getting the same issue too!!!
Except I have a Google Play Music subscription instead of Spotify.

I've tried:
- rebooting my phone
- rebooting my car's head unit
- reinstalling Android Auto
- checking the settings in Android Auto

Interestingly, I noticed that Google Assistant has No issues finding music.
However if I start Android Auto app on my phone and attempt to find a song (via phone), it will fail saying something like I DON'T KNOW HOW TO HELP WITH THAT...

So the issue is certainly NOT my car, which is good.
And it doesn't seem to be Google search.
It seems to be isolated to Android Auto.

Strangely though, if you say PLAY A SONG, it will happily play a random song!?!?

Surely we can't be the only 3 people that are experiencing this?????

Same issue here and looking on the Android Auto forums it seems to be a massive problem across many different phones and vehicle makes/models. Most definitely a bug on the Android Auto side of things and hopefully they can sort it out in the next couple of days as it's quite a safety concern for many people who've come accustomed to using voice commands during their commute. I think it's really weird that nobody working for Google or Android Auto has said anything about the issue.

As I said my phone is on
Android 8.1, android auto 3.5.583024.

This is happening to me also, has anyone managed a fix? Is it worth going to the car dealer to see if they know anything?

I have the same issues with voice commands and music.
"I'm sorry I front k is how to help with that".
Other voice commands still work. Although sending voice texts can sometimes be a bit spotty.ie nothing goes.

It used to work with Google music and my Spotify.

I've done all the usual checks and reboots/reinstall.
The issue us still there if you open the app when when disconnected from the car.

So it is definitely the app which is at fault.
I ended up disconnecting from the US and runny g my music over Bluetooth and NORMAL Google voice assistant instead of AA voice assistant.

Come on Google. This should have been caught prior to launching an update
