Android Auto WIFI feature, Kenwood DDX9905S

I just had this car stereo put in my car and this model claims to have Android Auto Wireless connection.

The manual states to use the wireless feature first plug your phone in via the USB connection so that it registers via Bluetooth and wi-fi automatically and then disconnect.  Once I disconnect it will never connect via wireless.

Anyone know how to actually set up the Wireless feature of Android Auto?

How would you feel if I told you that it doesn't work, and no one here knows when it will, not even the infrequent Google employees who contribute?

To be honest it wouldn't surprise me.  I talked to Kenwood support who basically read me what it says in the manual (plug the phone it first and then you can unplug and it will work) which didn't work.  They then told me it was new and they would have to send the ticket to another tier of support and I may get a call in a week or so.

Pretty much sounds like Kenwood jumped the gun and released new head units advertising a feature that doesn't exist. If it doesn't come about before my return period ends, I'm exchanging the head unit.

I agree.  I will probably keep this one if they can fix the other issue I'm having.  Apparently Kenwood head units have an issue with the backup camera not going back to the main screen when you put the car from Reverse to Drive.  I have worked with both Kenwood and Maestro (device that sits between the Kenwood and the car) and this is an issue that also happened with their old units.  If they can't bypass this bug then I'm going to a different brand head unit also.  Very disappointing.

I had the same problem so I also called Kenwood. I use a galaxy S8+ running android 8.0 Oreo. They told me the wireless android auto will only work with android 9.0 which from what I understand won't be released until August. She assured me some of the Pixel phones are currently running 9.0 but I'm skeptical. Can anybody verify that the Pixel is running 9.0. Either way, if this is the truth it looks like we'll have to wait until later this year to get the wireless android auto feature.

Hi Chris,

I'm based in Australia and I'm looking to order a DDX9905S. In Australia we use different AM/FM step frequencies than the US, and want to see if the Kenwood has the option to change between these. Is there any chance you could follow the directions in this YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeXZWiEMhaM) and tell me if the DDX9905S has the option to change the tuning intervals? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
J.
