Send and receive messages

You can tell Google to send a text message or read you one that you received through SMS or other compatible apps. 

Send a message
You can send a message by voice or with the Messages app.

Send a message by voice

  1. Say "Hey Google" or select the microphone .
  2. Say "message," "text," or "send a message to" and then a contact name or phone number. For example:
    • "Message [contact name]."
    • "Send a text to [phone number]."
    • "Message [contact name] with Facebook Messenger."
    • "Message [contact name] on Whatsapp."
  3. Android Auto will ask you to say your message.
  4. Android Auto will repeat your message and confirm if you are ready to send it. You can say "Send," "Change message," or "Cancel."  

Send a message with the Messages app

  1. Select Messages .
  2. Tap  New.
  3. Select a contact or you can say the name.
  4. Say your message.
  5. Android Auto will repeat your message and confirm if you are ready to send it. You can say "Send," "Change message," or "Cancel,"
Receive a message

Message notifications will appear on your screen. To listen to your message, tap the notification.

Missed messages appear as cards on your screen and can also be found in the notification center.

To listen to a missed message, select the card or open the notification center, and then tap  Play aloud.

To find an earlier message that you dismissed or missed, swipe on the card until you find the one you want, or tap the notification center and scroll through your messages.

 

Reply to a message
  1. To reply to a message, tap the message notification or card and tap Reply or the reply arrow . You can also use your voice to reply to the last message received. Just say “Hey Google” or tap the microphone .
  2. You will see options for replies you can tap to send, or you can talk to Google to create a custom reply.
  3. Android Auto will repeat your message and confirm if you are ready to send it. You can say "Send," "Change message," or "Cancel."
