See recent places and explore Google Maps

You can discover all kinds of places and unique destinations using Google Maps on Android Auto.

Recent places

The recent places feature in Android Auto saves you time when you look for places you’ve been to recently. You'll also see suggestions based on your past searches on Google Maps. To see recent places in Android Auto, follow these steps:

If you’re on your car display:

  1. Tap the app launcher App LauncherAnd then Google Maps Maps.   
  2. Tap Search  on the top of your display.
  3. A list of recent places will show up. Select a result to start navigating.

Explore categories

Categories help you find places close to you, such as gas stations, parking garages, or coffee shops. To view categories on Android Auto, follow these steps:

If you’re on your car display:

  1. Tap the app launcher App LauncherAnd then Google Maps Maps.
  2. On the top of your display, tap Search .
  3. Tap Categories.
  4. Select a category to see a list of results. 
  5. Select a result to start navigating.
 
Tip:  If your vehicle doesn't have Android Auto compatibility, you can get many of the same features with Google Assistant’s Driving mode on your phone. Just say, 'Hey Google, let’s drive' to get started.
