Android 11 Screen Recording - Video Calls - No Audio Recorded

Android 11 introduced native screen recording feature. When we begin screen recording it asks to choose audio source. One of them is Device audio - Sound from your device like music, calls, and ringtones. When this is enabled and on a Video call using WhatsApp or Duo it only records screen, no audio.
Anyone else having this issue? How do we record video calls with audio?

Thanks for your question, and welcome to the Forum!

You may need to select "speaker" or "microphone" or "this device" when selecting a sound source for screen recording.

I'm seeing the same thing but on Twitch. Video, but no audio recorded. Neither audio recording options make a difference.

I've tried recording videos with every combination of options, and none of them produce any sound - even the microphone option, despite being able to hear the audio quite clearly on the speakers. I'm pretty sure the software just refuses to turn on audio recording regardless of setting.

Yes, I have exact same issue on my Pixel 3.

Although I select "device audio", it doesn't record the audio from the device. When I record with "microphone" of course it records the sound.

Is this because Android doesn't support recording device audio? But it's strange since Android 11 features "screen record" and has "device audio" as audio source.

I've tried some third-party apps from play store that have device audio feature but none of them worked.

I thought it was because DRM or something, but it doesn't record any sounds from music app, video player, ringtone, etc.

I'm having the same issue can't record the screen with sound I've tried several options to no avail.

I had to try a 3rd party app to find screen record with audio. I'm on the pixel 3.

Same issue (Pixel 3) - trying to screen record a video and even with device audio enabled the recorded video has no sound.

Same issue here. When set to record device audio no app records. I tried tic toc and a phone call so far.

Same issue. Regardless of which options are selected, the screen recorder will not capture audio.

i was having the same issue when i was trying to screen record one of my songs on soundcloud for a friend. audio didnt work but if i went on instagram and looked at my story, which had audio, it recorded audio fine.

i think it blocks direct audio recording on certain apps.

I don't know of this the the right place , but it's the opposite for me, audio is fine for me but for video it only captures the background only, no icons, just plane background. Any help would be appreciated. I am attaching a screen shot of video captured.

Same issue. Video open in Chrome, all software up to date (as of 02.12.2020), no video sound recorded by screen record.

If this is intended behaviour, pray tell. (I guess it would be, since privacy and copyright issues outweigh our need to record our screen. It is, however, very inconvenient that this isn't reported back by the recording system! I had a live webinar which I tried to record for time-independent viewing).
