Remove the "Google" from Gboard space bar
4
Edit: To anyone who still needs help, I got the "Google" to go away by changing around the options on my suggestion bar. Turns out it can go away. Don't know if it's just a temporary fix or not, or if it'll work for every user.

For some reason, the layout of Gboard on my phone just randomly changed. There usually isn't "Google" across the spacebar, and the little arrow on the suggestion bar is usually the search function. Not for emojis but for searching up things on Google via the keyboard. I don't know there's been an update, but how do I put the search area back where the arrow is, and remove the "Google" from the space bar. I already have search enabled but it doesn't seem to bring back the browser search feature. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling as well.

I hate all these useless features google keeps adding. I'm so angry that they think they can advertise to me on my own keyboard. I don't want to look at their logo.

Yeah I hope there is a way to remove it. It's quite annoying to look at.

I quickly looked through Gboard's settings to no avail. It's an eye sore.

its new update right?

Technically it was a dormant update.  It was just activated; maybe when the Google app updated.  I say this because if you browse through months of previous versions (and install them) the Google Text is there as well.  The last build to not include it is a release build of v8, right before v9.

Furthermore it is more than a eyesore, it is a typing speed and concentration regression (at least for me).  This is because unconsciously my eyes keep looking at the "Google" imprinted on the Spacebar.

Searching for things take longer too.

Gboard team: This is a choice of design over function.  And the team member who approved it should be sacked (on the head with a albatross).

Only bypass for now would be to add one more language, and thus your current language will appear. It's still an eye sore tho.

The logo on the space bar looks hideous and like some low grade keyboard app. I dont want to switch keyboards but I will entirely because of this

@Quadie when it was just a G button on the top bar, I think I could tap on the button to activate search. But in this new layout with Google logo enabled, I can't reach the keyboard search anymore. Holding on the Google logo does nothing. ***(How is it supposed to work anyway?)*** It seems to be a backwards change that was completely aesthetic and takes away access to a feature that was something useful. It looks like a Television with its logo at the bottom. I might as well see my phone's manufacturer name or carrier name there...

Btw you are right I'm seeing more and more updates especially those from Google just randomly changing interfaces without any new update. I always wondered how that is possible because I expected apps to change only by updating. I thought maybe there's a new mechanism to update app UI by patching existing APK or something but now I realised it's just some dormant features that were remotely activated. It's still very scary, like there could be dormant spy tracking code that can be activated and deactivated remotely on a million phones at once!

And here I am asking for the nth time to give easier access to the question mark near space bar and not the nearly useless comma.

Distracting and irritating, and it doesn't actually do anything as far as I can tell. Honestly what is the point of slapping that on the space bar when I have a Google account logged into a Google phone, running the Google operating system...

What in the actual hell Google? You don't have to advertise on the spacebar it looks horrible when I type there's no point in this. Whoever did this should be laid off because it looks so bad and serves no actual purpose expect making it look like some cheap keyboard software developed by some college student rather than a multi billion company. Remove this Google because not only did you do it without considering the opinion of the public but as of now it's also unremovable. We know you are big company with great influence there's no need to shove it up our noses when we're texting someone.

@everyone, please send feedback from Gboard settings. That's the best way to get your opinion across to the development team.

How to remove the Google logo on the space bar:

1. Open Gboard settings (Either tap and hold on comma or Open the white arrow menu, tap three dots, choose Settings)
2. Tap on "⭐ Rate us"
3. To the question "Are you enjoying Gboard?" truthfully answer as "No"
4. Enter the following feedback: ***Remove the Google logo from the space bar. YUCK!!!"***
5. Paste the link to this thread in your feedback and Send it.
6. Tell us here that you did steps 1-5.
7. Wait for Google to finally listen to us all.

Alternative solution:
1. Install a different keyboard.
2. Switch to the new keyboard.
3. Repeat steps 1-2 until you find the keyboard you like the most.
4. Uninstall all other keyboards including Gboard.

It's so terrible. Completely distracting. Cheapens what was an excellent product. Google literally owns the operating system, they don't need to do this. This advertising is crude and ugly. Provide an option to turn it off!

Why does google think this is okay? It makes it really hard to focus on what I'm trying to type.
We know the keyboard is from Google! We don't need it interfering with our messaging! As if google needs MORE advertising! >:(

Thanks for representing this issue Artistically.

With regards to third party virtual keyboards (i.e. those other than GBoard found on the play store); I would perhaps say to not install a third party virtual keyboard as a potential solution to this. This is because a third party virtual keyboard might be more invasive to ones privacy, for example logging ones input (e.g. passwords).

I would think giving feedback to the GBoard team on this issue might be the best course of action. If enough people do it, I'm sure they'll remove the eyesore.

I never had ”Google" I have the the word ”English" on mine instead. Tried adding languages, clear data etc and still there. I'll send a report and use Swiftkey instead. I'm sick of Google and all their bullshit, in the middle of upgrading to pixel 3xl and seriously considering switching to Samsung instead. I've had enough.
