Issue - Phone numbers formatted incorrectly

I am in the US. When I make calls, about half of the numbers I try format/space themselves incorrectly. I'll type in 10 numbers and press call, then....

Rather than the US format I expect: (123) 456-7890
My calls read as German numbers like: 1234  567890
(See attached photo for clarity)

Under the number they have a German caller ID as well. The call connects correctly to the US number I was trying to call. I took a trip to Germany a few months ago and that's when it started. I've been back for months and can't fix it.
I am running Android 10 on a Google Pixel 3XL with Google Fi

Things I tried that did not fix the issue:
  • Turned on Google Location Accuracy
  • Allowed Phone App access to location all the time
  • Called support and they helped me reset my Google Fi account
  • Cleared my call history

UPDATE: What fixed the problem in the end was clearing the phone app storage and the contacts app cache.

Lilybell, thanks for your reply. When I type the numbers with +1 in front, it gets them correct. However, that is inconvenient and I didn't have to do that before the bug arose.

I did find the answer on another forum page for anyone else with this problem. What worked for me was clearing the phone app storage and the contacts app cache.

Hello Matthew_Evans,

Welcome to the Android Community forum.

Have you tried using the country code, e.g., for US:   +1-123-456-7890

What happens when you do that?

Best,
Lilybell2

Matthew_Evans,

Thanks for sharing what worked for you.  I'm glad it's fixed.

I have all my contacts set up with +1, it's just something I've done for years.

Best,
Lilybell2
