"Display over other apps" does not exist?

To be able to use a specific app (not sure if I am allowed to mention names here but I can clarify if required) I need to be able to allow it access to display over others.

When I recently began using a new phone I was prompted through the app to turn this option on, however when I went into the app's settings menu it said that the feature was disabled as it would slow my phone down.

Confused, I contacted their support and was told I needed to go to the following menus: Settings > Apps and notifications > Special app access > Display over other apps.

But when I go into the Special app access menu there is no option to display over other apps.

Is there any other way that I can turn this feature on? It seems bizarre that it is automatically turned off and I apparently have no choice in the matter.

I have seen similar questions asked but none seem to give a definitive answer to my question, so I thought it was worth asking myself.

(Apologies in advance if this is in the wrong category; I wasn't sure what to select.)

Hello!

Welcome to the Android Help Community!

It's possible that you have a device that has Android Go. It's a lightweight version of Android with some features stripped off to make it run well on devices with low end hardware. Display over other apps is one of those features.

Oh, does not mean there's no way of turning it on? Well, that's unfortunate if so, but thank you for the answer, it's greatly appreciated!
