Greeting to all.

I'm fairly new here. And fairly new to Android.
One morning i woke up with a bricked phone after it performed some OTA updates i could not turn off. Because updates sometimes go wrong, i turned off whatever updates i could but this one got pushed, anyway.

So, when i wake up, i see the phone in Safe Mode. "Well, that's a new one" i say to myself... So i reboot it.
After reboot, i get the "System UI has stopped" message and a black screen. Briefly said, i cannot unlock the phone. Cannot backup data from it (Samsung Kies won't let me do anything, although it recognises it) and Samsung Switch says "Unlock the phone" which is impossible.  There is no PIN / Pattern / Fingerprint set, i usually just used to swipe up but the screen is black and i keep getting the message about "System UI".

I called most service centers in the city but none that i could find are proficient in Android Debugging and all of them offered me a factory reset for 15$ - however this loses my data. I don't care about my photos, and i honestly do not have any data on the phone, but i need my WhatsApp messages.

I'm a software developer myself and a bit of a tech nerd, so i'm asking you is there a way to debug the app that's crashing the phone / perform an update via USB / from a software package on a USB flash drive / ADB console ?

Whenever i reboot the phone with Volume UP + Power it says "Installing update" then the "No Command" message appears and then i get a menu where it says "Install update from ADB package".

I'm not familiar with ADB but i'm willing to learn the basics...

Anyone here willing to help?

Unfortunately, your smartphone suffered a serious error on your Android system. Please see how you can > Find problem apps by rebooting to safe mode on Android [Android Help] so that you can exit safe mode and return to normal mode.

Safe mode does not work either.

Called Samsung - they told me that the only solution is factory reset - which wipes all user data.... well, than you, i can do that myself and not send the phone to them and pay 15$ for the service.

Guess my reasons for not buying a smartphone were not quite unfounded - i hated them and no i do even more. Nobody takes no responsibility - everyone pushes updated via backdoors up my ass and, when they brick my phone -  well, tough luck.

I'm going back to my good old Nokia.

Follow the instructions so that you can > Set screen lock on an Android device [Android Help] under No lock > None. So that your mobile device (phone or tablet) remains unlocked.

Outrageous. The solution to "My Phone's security feature makes my phone unusable" is "Maybe try not securing your phone".

I'm having the same problem - I can unlock with fingerprint, but not with my PIN - unlocking with my Pin simply crashes and restarts the android UI in a locked state. Of course, fingerprint unlocking is disabled after restarting the phone until the system is unlocked once with the PIN.

It is not acceptable to me for my phone to be accessible to anybody who picks it up.

To turn off phone protection after you have > Help prevent others from using your device without permission [Android Help], remove your Google Account from your phone, and follow the necessary instructions. Learn how to > Remove an account on Android [Android Help].
 
If you have Developer options turned on, you can also turn off phone protection from your phone's Settings app. Tap System And then Advanced And then Developer options And then OEM Unlocking.
