Manage how you spend time on your Android phone with Digital Wellbeing

On some Android phones, you can get info about how you spend time on your device, like how often you unlock it and how long you use each app. You can use that info to improve your digital wellbeing. For example, you can set app timers and schedule display changes.

Tip: To find Digital Wellbeing as an app, open in it your Settings app and then turn on Show icon in the app list.

Manage your time in apps

Note: Settings can vary by device. For more info, contact your device manufacturer.

Find out how much time you spend in apps

  1. Open your device's Settings app.
  2. Tap Digital Wellbeing.
  3. The chart shows your phone use today. For more info, tap the chart. For example:
    • Screen time: What apps you've had on screen and for how long
    • Unlocks: How often you've unlocked your phone and opened certain apps
    • Notifications: How many notifications you've gotten and from which apps
  4. To get more info or change app settings, tap a listed app.

Limit how much time you spend in an app each day

Note: Some work and school accounts might not work with app timers.

  1. Open your device's Settings app.
  2. Tap Digital Wellbeing.
  3. Tap the chart and then the app you want to limit.
  4. Set the total time per day that you can use the app.
  5. When you reach your limit, the app closes and its icon dims.
    • App timers reset at midnight.
    • To use the app again before midnight, follow steps 1–3 above and delete the app timer.

Reduce distractions when you want to disconnect

Make it easier to put down your phone

You can schedule changes to help you get ready for sleep, like dimming your display and stopping notifications.

  1. Open your device's Settings app.
  2. Tap Digital Wellbeing and then Wind Down.
  3. If necessary, follow the onscreen instructions.
  4. Turn on Wind Down.
  5. Pick your options:
    • Start and end times.
    • Whether to turn on Grayscale. This removes your screen's colors.
    • Whether to turn on Do Not Disturb. Learn how to avoid interruptions.
    • When to turn on Night Light. This makes it easier to see the screen in dim light.

Tip: After you turn on Wind Down, you might find Grayscale in the Quick Setting panel. Learn how to quickly change common settings.
