Stretch a low battery’s power on Android

To help a dying battery last until you can plug in your phone, you can turn on battery saver. You can also make temporary changes to your settings to stretch your remaining battery power.

Important: Some of these steps work only on Android 10 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.

Turn on battery saver

If your battery is close to dying, turn on battery saver

Avoid high-drain activities

Avoid keeping the screen on
  • Showing navigation for long periods
  • Watching videos
  • Playing graphics-heavy games
Avoid constant internet connection
  • Tethering ("hotspots")
  • Using GPS for long periods
  • Streaming videos or music
  • Phone calls on the move (like in a car)
Avoid processing much information
  • Much camera use
  • Playing highly interactive games
  • Using apps for long periods

Limit connectivity & location

Turn on Airplane mode

If you don’t need your mobile network

  1. Swipe down from the top of your phone's screen.
  2. Tap Airplane mode Airplane mode.

Use Wi-Fi in Airplane mode

  1. Swipe down once from the top of your phone's screen.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi Wi-Fi.
Turn off Bluetooth
  1. Swipe down from the top of your phone's screen.
  2. Tap Bluetooth Bluetooth.
Turn off Location

Important: Many apps and features won’t work without Location services.

  1. Open your phone's Settings app.
  2. Tap Location. If you don't see "Location," tap Security & location and then Location.
  3. Turn off Use location or Location.

Limit automatic syncing

Turn off auto-sync for your Google Account

You can save battery by turning off auto-sync for your whole Google Account. But your data won’t automatically refresh while auto-sync is off, and some apps won’t work properly. Learn how to stop syncing your Google Account.
