Fix issues with your Play Protect certification status

If your device isn't Play Protect certified, Google doesn’t have a record of the Android compatibility test results.

Keep in mind that:

  • Devices that aren't Play Protect certified may not be secure.
  • Devices that aren't Play Protect certified may not get Android system updates or app updates.
  • Google apps on devices that aren't Play Protect certified aren't licensed and may not be real Google apps.
  • Apps and features on devices that aren't Play Protect certified may not work correctly.
  • Data on devices that aren't Play Protect certified may not back up securely.

Check your Play Protect certification status

  1. Open the Google Play Store app Google Play.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and then Settings.
  3. Under "Play Protect certification," you'll find if your device is Play Protect certified. 
Device is certified

If your device is certified and you got an alert that it’s not, we’d like more information about your experience. You can send feedback to help us review the alert.

  1. Open your device’s Settings app.
  2. Tap Google and then Help & feedback  and then Send feedback.
  3. Enter details about what happened. Include the name of the app you used when you got the error and add the hashtag #appissue.
  4. Check System logs.
  5. Tap Send .
Device isn't certified

Check if your device is on the list of certified devices.

  • If it’s not listed: Your device is not Play Protect certified.
  • If it’s on the list: We’d like more information about your experience. You can send feedback to help us review the alert.
    1. Open your device’s Settings app.
    2. Tap Google and then Help & feedback  and then Send feedback.
    3. Enter details about what happened. Include the name of the app used when you got the error and add the hashtag #appalert.
    4. Check System logs.
    5. Tap Send .

If your device uses a custom ROM, register your device. If you have trouble and need help, you can start a new thread in the Android Community.

  1. Go to the Android Help Community. You can post in any language.
  2. At the bottom, select Ask now.
  3. Type your question, then select Continue.
  4. Select these details:
    1. First down arrow: Select Google Play Services.
    2. Second down arrow: Select your Android version. Learn how to check your Android version.
    3. Third down arrow: Select your phone manufacturer. If it’s not listed, select Other.
    4. Select Continue.
  5. Add details about what you were doing before you got the error.
  6. Click I’m not a robot and then Post.
Can't check certification status

If you don’t have Google Play installed or can’t log in to Google Play, check if your device is on the list of certified devices.

  • If it’s not listed: Your device is not Play Protect certified.

  • If it’s on the list: We’d like more information about your experience. You can start a new thread in the Android Community to help us review the alert.

    1. Go to the Android Help Community. You can post in any language.
    2. At the bottom, select Ask now.
    3. Type your question. Then select Continue.
    4. For the down arrow options, select:
      • First down arrow: Select Google Play Services.
      • Second down arrow: Select your Android version. Learn how to check your Android version.

    6. Add details about what you were doing when you got the error.
    7. Click I’m not a robot and then Post.
