Use auto-spatialization on Android XR

You can transform your 2D content into 3D spatial experiences with auto-spatialization on your Android XR device. It adds depth to apps, including image and video content, which provides a more immersive experience.

Manage auto-spatialization

Important:

  • It works best for images and non-protected video content.
  • Auto-spatialization only works on the app window currently in focus.
  • This is available only in Home Space Mode. Learn more about spaces and multitasking on Android XR.
  • It supports up to 1080p or lower at 30 frames per second.
  • When you turn on this feature, your Android XR device uses slightly more battery power.
  • The feature may be automatically turned off to maintain system performance. Once your device returns to normal performance and if you haven’t ended the session, the feature is automatically re-enabled.
  • If you turn off your device, the feature turns off. To start using it again, you have to re-enable the feature.

To get started, activate the feature in the Settings app.

  1. On your Android XR device, open the Settings app.
  2. Select Advanced settings.
  3. Under the “Labs” tab, turn on Enable auto-spatialization.

Tip: When you turn on the feature in the Settings app, it applies across apps, but you can turn it off individually per app.

Control settings for individual apps

Once you turn on the feature in your Settings app, you can manually manage this feature for specific applications.

  1. On your Android XR device, open the app you want to use.
  2. At the top of the header bar, select and hold the app icon.
  3. To turn it off, from the drop-down menu, select Disable auto-spatialization.
