Learn how to navigate on your Android XR device

To navigate and maximise the use of your Android XR device, use hand gestures.

Learn about hand gestures

Each hand gesture performs a different action on your device. To maximise the use of your device, refer to the table.

Aim with hand.

Select

Pinch your index finger and thumb together.

Go to Launcher

With your palm facing you, pinch and hold with index finger and thumb, then release.

Tip: Right hand is the default. To use your left hand, customise Android XR input settings.

Launch Circle to Search

With your palm facing you, pinch and hold with index finger and thumb until Circle to Search is activated.

Go back

With your palm facing you, pinch and hold with index finger and thumb, move left, then release.

Open recent apps

With your palm facing you, pinch and hold with index finger and thumb, move right, then release.

Move, scroll or pan

Pinch and drag.

Zoom or adjust scale

Pinch with both hands, then move your hands closer or further apart from each other.

Go to home screen

Based on your settings, you can open your right or left palm up and then pinch. Learn how to customise Android XR input settings.

From the home screen, you can access:

  • All apps
  • Pinned apps
  • Recent apps
  • Home space
  • Google Search
  • Tidy up
  • Notifications
  • Settings

Customise Quick Settings

From Quick Settings, you can access frequently used functions, like:

  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth
  • Screen brightness

You can access buttons, like:

  • PC link
  • Floor level
  • Smart view

You can customise the buttons in Quick Settings:

  1. On the home screen, select Quick Settings .
  2. Scroll to 'Add' .
    • To remove a button, at the top left, select Remove.
    • To add a button, under 'Available buttons', select the button that you want to add.
  3. Select Done.

Change virtual environment settings

  1. On the home screen, select Quick Settings .
  2. At the bottom, select Home environment.
  3. Point and select your desired environment.
  4. Select your environment setting:
    • Auto
    • Day
    • Night
  5. Select Apply.

You can also double-tap the button or touchpad on your headset to switch between home and virtual environment. Or, on the home screen, select Quick Settings and then Environment.
