Maintaining accurate developer account information is crucial for ensuring the safety of Android users. Failure to comply may affect the status of your Android Developer Console account and your ability to distribute apps to certified Android devices.
Maintaining your developer identity details and contact information
To enhance user safety on Android, Google requires developers to verify their identity and contact information. If Google is unable to verify these details, your Android developer identity may be restricted, preventing you from distributing apps to certified Android devices.
To prevent any account limitations, it is essential to keep your verified identity information up to date. Additionally, ensure that the contact email address and phone number Google uses to reach you regarding your account are always active and accurate.
Update your legal name and address
Note: If your legal name or address changes, or your organization's legal name or business address changes, you must update the payment profile used to verify your developer account.
If you need to change your name or address associated with your Android Developer Console account, you can do so by updating your existing Google payment profile.
- Go to Android Developer Console.
- Navigate to Identity > About you / About your organization
- Select View payment profile, which will take you to Google payments center
- Find the field you want to edit (for example, name or address).
- Enter the new information.
- Select Save.
You might need to upload identity documents to complete the update.
Note the following:
- Access requirements: Only users with admin access to the Google payment profile are permitted to make these updates.
- Personal accounts: For personal accounts, the payment profile is permanently linked to the original Android Developer Console account creator, and cannot be altered.
- Organizational accounts: For organization accounts, multiple administrators can manage the payment profile within the Google Payments Center.
If you need to update your country, you will need to create a new Android Developer Console account and transfer your registered package names across.
Changing your developer account type
During early access, your developer account type (personal or organization) is permanent once created and cannot be changed. Should you need a different account type (for example, change from personal to organization), you must create a new account and re-register your app's package names with it.
Update your contact details
You can update your contact email address and contact phone number by visiting the Contact details tab from the Android Developer Console’s Identity page.
Contact phone number
- Open Android Developer Console and go to the Identity page.
- Next, select Contact details.
- Locate the contact phone number and enter your new phone number in international format.
- Phone numbers in international format begin with a plus (+) sign, followed by the country code, the area code and the phone number: +(Country code)(Area code)(Phone number)
- Examples: +14155552671, +441234567890
- Choose whether you’d like to receive your verification code by text message or voice call.
- Select Verify phone number. You will receive a text message or voice call sharing a six-digit code.
- Enter the six-digit code and select Verify.
You will be required to complete the phone verification process whenever you update your developer phone number.
If for some reason you do not receive the six-digit one-time password via your chosen method, for example, text message, try the other method, for example, voice call.

- Next, select Contact details.
