How to block Bot traffic coming from Organic Channel?
1
Hello,

We have received Bot traffic under Organic channel in our GA profile for specific dates in last week.

Usually Bot traffic comes from Referral channel but this time it has come from Organic channel and has created new landing pages like /trafficbot.life and /bot-traffic.icu.

Some of the traffic came with referral trafficbot.life and bot-traffic.icu, that I can block by adding these 2 domains to the referral exclusion list but what shall I do with the traffic coming on these weird landing pages with full referrer as "Google" or organic channel?

Can someone please help me understanding this? Is there a way to stop happening this from next time?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Dyna

Hi

In your GA account admin settings under View --> View Settings look for "Bot Filtering".

Hi, this solution doesn't solve the issue. As the OP mentions, the bot creates new landing pages on our sites, eg https://examplesite.com/trafficbot.life

Is there a way to exclude these "landing pages" from analytics? It's really messing with all my stats. Thanks!

First things first..

Follow best GA practices and keep the default All Website Data view unfiltered.
It is there as an unfiltered, raw, copy of data for a point of comparison.

Make sure bot filtering is turned on in the View settings (it should be on by default).

On your main reporting views, always apply an Include valid hostname filter, to only include data from valid hostnames. It is a proactive approach (and easier than trying to play "whack a mole" with excluding invalid hostnames after the fact.. which will turn into a never ending list that needs to be constantly monitored and editing of filters each time a new one appears).

The Property's Referral Exclusion List, is not how to deal with referral spam, it has an entirely different purpose and will not remove the spam from your data, it will simply change it to being reported as direct/none.. so it's harder to actually spot and remove it in reporting.

Hi were you able to resolve this issue? I am experiencing the exact same thing and it's very worrisome

Hi all, just had this exact issue. Found a really simple way to segment out the traffic.

I created a segment that excludes by exit page. In my instance, the bot traffic all exited via the erroneous page it had created (/trafficbot.live)

Really hope this helps someone!
