An issue with Tag assistant and tracking code provided by Analytics 0 Recommended Answers 1 Reply 1 Upvote

In my GA account, this is the default code (below) mentioned in Tracking Code section.
I place that code in my website and reporting works. Then I check that code with Tag Assistant and I get that it is not implemented correctly and that I have 2 instances of GA.
I am really confused. I guess it says 2 instances due to the 2 times the ID is mentioned. But that is crazy. It is the code from GA. I even tried to open a blank test account and I get the same code.
What is going on?

<!-- Global site tag (gtag.js) - Google Analytics -->
<script async src="https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=UA-XXXXXX-XX"></script>
  window.dataLayer = window.dataLayer || [];
  function gtag(){dataLayer.push(arguments);}
  gtag('js', new Date());

  gtag('config', 'UA-XXXXXX-XX');

In tag assistant, one instance will say Global Site Tag (gtag.js) and then there will be another tag for Google Analytics for the same Property/tracking id as the gtag.js tag.
This is expected behaviour
If you look at the example of the tracking code you shared.. there are two <script> tags taht make up the tracking code snippet.. that is what tag assistant is showing.
