The instructions in this help article may be affected by recent changes in the Analytics user interface. See this blog post for details. Help center updates are coming soon.

Account setup with additional privacy features

Analytics offers several optional privacy features. These features can be implemented to further enhance Analytics privacy safeguards.

IP Anonymization

The ga('set', 'anonymizeIp', true) feature in the analytics.js library allows website owners to request that all of their users' IP addresses are anonymized within the product. Learn more.

Data Processing Amendment

The Analytics Data Processing Amendment is intended for businesses established in the territory of a member state of the European Economic Area or Switzerland, or that, for other reasons, are subject to the territorial scope of the national implementations of Directive 95/46/EC.

Opt-out Browser Add-on

Website visitors who don’t want their data used by Analytics can install the Analytics opt-out browser add-on. This add-on instructs the Analytics JavaScript (ga.js, analytics.js, and dc.js) running on websites to prohibit their information from being used by Analytics. Using the Analytics opt-out plug-in will not prevent site owners from using other tools to measure site analytics.
