DoubleClick Campaign Manager

Policy requirements for Display Advertising

When you update your Analytics tracking code to support Display Advertising, you enable Google Analytics to collect data about your traffic via the DoubleClick cookie in addition to data collected through the standard Google Analytics implementation. Display Advertising lets you enable features in Analytics that aren't available through standard implementations, like Remarketing with Google Analytics, Google Display Network Impression Reporting, the DoubleClick Campaign Manager integration, and Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting.

If you enable Google Analytics to support Display Advertising through any other implementation, you must provide equivalent disclosures and follow all applicable policies.

You will not facilitate the merging of personally-identifiable information with non-personally identifiable information previously collected from Display Advertising features that is based on the DoubleClick cookie unless you have robust notice of, and the user's prior affirmative (i.e., opt-in) consent to, that merger.

If you change your Analytics tracking code to support Display Advertising, you are required to notify your users by disclosing the following information in your privacy policy:

  • The Google Analytics features you've implemented based on Display Advertising (e.g., Remarketing, Google Display Network Impression Reporting, the DoubleClick Campaign Manager integration, or Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting).
  • Using the Ads Settings, users can opt-out of Google Analytics for Display Advertising and customize Google Display Network ads.

We also encourage you to point users to Google Analytics' currently available opt-outs for the web.

If you've implemented Remarketing with Google Analytics, you must also follow the Google AdWords Interest-Based Advertising Policy and its sensitive category restrictions, and disclose in your privacy policy:

  • You use Remarketing with Google Analytics to advertise online.
  • Third-party vendors, including Google, may show your ads on sites across the Internet.
  • You and third-party vendors, including Google, use first-party cookies (such as the Google Analytics cookie) and third-party cookies (such as the DoubleClick cookie) together to inform, optimize, and serve ads based on someone's past visits to your website.

If you've implemented Google Display Network Impression Reporting or the DoubleClick Campaign Manager integration, you must also disclose in your privacy policy:

  • You and third-party vendors, including Google, use first-party cookies (such as the Google Analytics cookies) and third-party cookies (such as the DoubleClick cookie) together to report how your ad impressions, other uses of ad services, and interactions with these ad impressions and ad services are related to visits to your site.

If you’ve implemented Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting, you must also disclose in your privacy policy:

  • How you use data from Google's Interest-based advertising or 3rd-party audience data (such as age, gender, and interests) with Google Analytics.

Because laws across countries and territories vary, and because Google Analytics can be used in many ways, Google is unable to provide the exact language you need to include in your privacy policy. Only you understand the unique aspects and special considerations of your business, and your privacy policy should account for this information that only you can provide.
