[GA4] Copy reports and explorations across Google Analytics properties

Experiment icon for Gradual feature rollout  Gradual feature rollout: This feature is not yet available for all Google Analytics properties.

You can copy the configuration of a custom detail report or exploration from one property to the other properties where you have a role to create a custom detail report or exploration.

By copying the configuration across properties, you can avoid configuration differences, save time creating reports and explorations in other properties, and spend more time analyzing and getting insights from your data.

You can copy the following types of reports and explorations to properties, subproperties, and roll up properties:

  • a custom detail report, including all the summary cards in the custom detail report
  • a private or shared custom exploration, including all the tabs in the custom exploration

The option is available to standard and 360 Analytics properties.

The following guided tour opens the last Analytics property you accessed and guides you through how to copy a custom report or exploration across properties. The tour only works for Google Analytics 4, the current version of Google Analytics.

Limits and caveats

The copy action produces a snapshot of the custom report or exploration's configuration at the time when the copy action happened. The copied report or exploration won't reflect changes to the original report or exploration, and no data from the original report or exploration will be included with the copied report or exploration. The copied report or exploration will behave as if it were created in the selected properties directly.

You can't currently:

  • copy a default report or a custom overview report across properties
  • auto-create custom dimensions, metrics, summary cards, segments, and audiences in the selected properties

Tabs with unsampled data are dropped from an exploration when copied.

You can't copy a custom detail report or exploration within the same property. Instead, you should directly make a copy in Explore and reports library.

Before you begin

You must be:

  • an Editor or above in both properties to copy a custom detail report
  • a Viewer or above in both properties to copy an exploration

Copy a custom detail report to another property

  1. In Google Analytics, open the Reports section.
  2. At the bottom of the left navigation, click Library.
  3. To the right of a custom detail report, click > Copy across properties.
Tip: You can copy custom detail reports (not default detail reports). To identify a default detail report, look for in the Type column of the library.
  4. In the Choose a property screen, click Copy to property to copy the custom detail report to the property. You can use the search box to find a property more easily.
  5. Analytics will return a copy status. Learn more about each status

Copy an exploration to another property

  1. In Google Analytics, open the Explore section.
  2. To the right of an exploration, click > Copy across properties.
  3. In the Choose a property screen, click Copy to property to copy the exploration to the property. You can use the search box to find a property more easily.
  4. Analytics will return a copy status. Learn more about each status

Statuses

When you copy a custom detail report or exploration, you will see one of these statuses:

Status Description
Success

The custom detail report or exploration was copied successfully.

Warning

The custom detail report or exploration was copied successfully, but it contains customizations that weren't copied. The following types of customizations aren't copied to the selected property:

  • Audiences
  • Calculated metrics
  • Custom channel groupings
  • Custom dimensions
  • Custom metrics
  • Saved comparisons
  • Saved segments

You'll need to update the report in the selected property to ensure it can be used.

Note: When you copy a custom report or exploration that contains a custom dimension or metric, you will see the text "(archived dimension)" or "(archived metric)" where you used the custom dimension or metric. To replace the archived custom dimension or metric, refer to the original Google Analytics property for the configuration of the custom dimension or metric.
Failure

The custom detail report or exploration wasn't copied for one of these reasons:

  • You've reached the quota limit for custom reports or explorations. You can create up to 150 custom reports per property. Additionally, you can create up to 200 individual explorations per user per property and up to 500 shared explorations per property.
  • You don't have a required role to copy the custom report or exploration. This error may occur when your role changed in the selected property while you were copying a custom report or exploration.

Next steps

After you copy a custom detail report or exploration:

  1. Update the custom report or exploration in the selected property with any customizations, such as custom dimensions, metrics, and audiences, that were invalidated during the copy.
  2. Make the report or exploration available to other users in the property:
