[GA4] Change dimensions in detail reports

Changing the dimension in a detail report lets you break down your data into different groupings, such as the format of an ad or the country someone's visiting from. You can also add a second dimension to understand data for a combination of dimensions.

What is a dimension?

A dimension is an attribute of your data. It describes your data and it's usually text as opposed to numbers. An example of a dimension is Event name, which shows the name of an event that someone triggered on your website or app.

Change the dimension in a detail report

If a report includes more than one dimension, you will see an downward arrow to the right of the dimension in the top left of the table. You can click the drop-down to change the dimension in a detail report.

Some reports don't include more than one dimension so you can't change the primary dimension in those reports. These reports include the Events report, the Conversions report, and the In-app purchases report.

  1. While viewing a detail report, select the dimension picker in the table on the top left.

  2. Browse the list of dimensions, or enter all or part of the dimension name in the search box.
  3. Click the dimension name. Each value for the dimension appears below the dimension.

Add a dimension to a detail report

You can add a second dimension to your report to further break down your data. The second dimension is added to the report temporarily, and it's removed when you leave the report.

  1. Next to the dimension drop-down, click Plus.
  2. Browse the list of dimensions, or enter all or part of the dimension name in the search box.
  3. Select the dimension name. Each value for the dimension appears below the dimension.
