Google Analytics 4 has replaced Universal Analytics

Google Analytics 4 (GA4) has replaced Universal Analytics (UA). Starting on July 1, 2024, you will lose access to Universal Analytics data in your account, the API, and in Google Ads. If you haven't completed the migration, go to the Setup Assistant to get started with Google Analytics 4. 

Why migrate to Google Analytics 4?

Google Analytics 4 lets you:

  • see holistic user journeys across websites and apps
  • use Google AI to automatically surface insights and predict new ones
  • adapt to a changing ecosystem so your measurement can remain intact and privacy-centric into the future

How do I switch?

You can migrate to Google Analytics 4 in different ways, depending on how much automated assistance you'd like.

Option 1: More automated

Choose this option if you want to use tools that:

  • create and set up a new Google Analytics 4 property
  • migrate your goals to GA4

Option 2: Less automated

Choose this option if you:

  • have more advanced implementation needs
  • want complete control over your Google Analytics 4 property implementation

Time: Varies depending on the complexity of your setup

Option 3: Fully automated

If you don't migrate on your own, you can wait for a Google Analytics 4 property to be automatically created for you. Learn more about Automatically created Google Analytics 4 properties.

Not all Analytics configurations have an obvious Google Analytics 4 counterpart, and the automated process might not make the same choices as you would. We strongly recommend that you choose one of the options above.

For Google Ads customers

If you’re a Google Ads customer, and you import key events or use audiences from a Google Analytics property in an active campaign, make sure you migrate as soon as possible to avoid serious disruptions of your ad campaigns.
