[GA4] Change and compare date ranges in reports

You can change the date range in a report or compare data for one date range with data for another date range. When you change the date range in a report, all other reports are updated with the new date range. However, other users won't see the changes.

You can change the date in a report, but you cannot save a specific date to a report through report customization. Given that the Realtime report shows immediate data, it does not have a date picker.

You can currently view only daily data, not weekly or monthly data.

Change the date range

  1. When looking at a report, select the date picker in the top right.

  2. Choose a date range. You can choose from pre-set ranges, such as "Last 7 days" and "Last 12 months", or choose a custom range using the calendar on the right.
  3. Optional: Click Compare to compare the data for the selected date range with data for the previous date range.
  4. Click Apply

Compare data for two date ranges

Choose an option to compare data when you select Compare in the bottom left:

Comparison Description

For instance, if you pick Wednesday, Jan 11 to Thursday, Jan 12, 2023...

Preceding period (match day of week)

Displays current range data versus previous range data, starting the same weekday.

the previous period is Wednesday, Jan 4 to Thursday, Jan 5

Same period last year (match day of week)

Displays current range data versus the same date range last year, starting on the same weekday.

the previous period is Wednesday, Jan 12 to Thursday, Jan 13
Preceding period

Compares current date range data to the previous date range data.

the previous period is Monday, Jan 9 to Tuesday, Jan 10
Same period last year

Compares current date range data to the same range last year to date.

the previous period is Tuesday, Jan 11 to Wednesday, Jan 12

Keyboard shortcuts

Use these keyboard shortcuts to quickly update the date range in a report. Date-range shortcuts work only with reports that have one date picker for the whole report. To learn about other keyboard shortcuts, see Keyboard shortcuts.
