Intelligence monitors your website's traffic to detect significant statistical variations, and generates alerts when those variations occur.

Types of alerts

Automatic web alerts are generated whenever Google Analytics detects a significant change in usage or traffic metrics.

Automatic AdWords alerts are generated whenever Google Analytics detects a significant change in traffic from AdWords. For example, you might see an alert if the CTR for one of your campaigns increases dramatically, or if revenue from one of your destination URLs has dropped significantly from the previous week.

Custom alerts are generated when traffic reaches a specific threshold that you have specified. For example, you can set a custom alert to appear when traffic from Paris decreases by more than 20%. You can opt in to receive email or text message notifications when you create a custom alert, so you'll know when the event happens, even if you're not checking your reports.

To see alerts:

  1. Sign in to your Google Analytics account.
  2. Navigate to your view.
  3. Select the Reporting tab.
  4. Select Intelligence Events.

Enabling alerts

No setup is required to see automatic web alerts. To see automatic AdWords alerts, you'll need to have linked Google Analytics to AdWords and have auto-tagging enabled. If you already use the AdWords reports in Google Analytics, you’re all set.

To see custom alerts, you'll need to create them.
