User-provided-data collection for User-ID Policy

Your use of the user-provided-data collection feature for User-ID (“the feature”), and any optional integrations are subject to the following additional terms, which will govern in the case of any conflict between such terms and the terms governing your use of Google Analytics or Google Analytics 360 (as applicable):

  1. Your use of the feature is subject to the Measurement Protocol, SDK and User ID policy.
  2. You may only send first-party data (i.e., information shared directly with you by your end users) to Google through the feature, including via supported APIs, data import and/or measurement protocol.
  3. Notwithstanding any prohibition against passing data to Google that it can recognize as personally identifiable information (“PII”), you may pass PII for the sole purpose of using this feature provided all the below requirements are met:
    1. You must hash any data you send through the feature that allows Google to personally identify an individual (such as email, phone numbers, first name and last name, and street address) using the SHA256 algorithm, which is the industry standard for one-way hashing.
      • Note that country, state, city and zip code data fields themselves should not be hashed.
      • If you use the Google Tagging Javascript API and/or Google Tag Manager to send data through the feature, any PII data collected therein will be automatically hashed.
    2. You must obtain consent from your end users for the collection, passing and use of any PII you send to Google through the feature, including their consent to associate data across their unauthenticated and authenticated session activities on your sites and/or apps. You must also obtain consent from your end users for the use of such PII sent through the API and/or through the feature, for any additional measurement, targeting, audience personalization and/or reporting activities, including those optionally enabled within Analytics and through your linking integrations.
    3. You acknowledge that any use of the feature in conjunction with ads measurement and/or audience features is subject to the Google Analytics Advertising Features Policy.
    4. If you implement Consent Mode feature of Google Analytics and/or Google Ads, the consent you procure from your end users for your use of their PII for the feature and/or associated integrations operates independently and is not affected by end user choices over the Consent Mode ad_storage setting and/or analytics_storage, which apply only to the cookies that are set as part of the analytics service or ads service as defined here and here.
