By default, each detail report has a table with one or two dimensions and one or more metrics. You can change the dimensions in a detail report to see different groups of information and different metric values.
For example, you might see a table like the following in the Pages and screens report:
Page title and screen class + | Views | Users | New users |
---|---|---|---|
Totals | 869 | 485 | 235 |
/ | 284 | 183 | 122 |
/clothing | 276 | 146 | 68 |
Google Analytics displays different values under Views, Users, and New users when you change the primary dimension. In this example, the primary dimension is "Page title and screen class".
If you change the primary dimension to "Content group" (and you've defined content groups), the metric values and totals will change depending on the number of views, users, and new users for each content group.
Change the primary dimension
The primary dimension is the first dimension in a table. Each metric in the table shows data based on this dimension.
To change the primary dimension in a table:
- Click the primary dimension. (In the previous example, click "Page title and screen class".)
- Browse the list of dimensions, or enter all or part of the dimension name in the search box.
- Select the dimension you want to apply to the table.
Add a secondary dimension
You can add a secondary dimension to a table to investigate data across two dimensions. For example, if you want to look at the most popular pages and screens and the countries that most frequently visit those pages and screens, you could add the Country dimension.
To add a secondary dimension to a table:
- Click
next to the first drop down above the table.
- Browse the list of dimensions, or enter all or part of the dimension name in the search box.
- Select the dimension you want to apply to the table.
