Edit view settings

You need to have the Edit permission in order to edit view settings.

After you create a view, you can then edit the settings when necessary.

Note that there are more view settings for web properties than there are for app properties. If you’re editing a view within an app property, many of the options listed below don’t appear.

To edit view settings:

  1. Click Admin at the top of any Analytics page.
  2. Use the menu in the View column to select the view you want to edit.
  3. Click View Settings.
  4. General Information:
    • View Name: The name that appears in the list of views.
    • Website's URL: The domain name of website you're tracking, e.g. www.mysite.com. This information is used by the Content reports, including In-Page Analytics.
    • Time zone country or territory: The country or territory and the time zone you want to use as the day boundary for your reports, regardless of where the data originates. For example, if you choose United States, Pacific Time, then the beginning and end of each day is calculated based on Pacific Time, even if the hit comes from New York, London, or Moscow.

      Changing the time zone only affects data going forward, and is not applied retroactively. If you change the time zone for an existing view, you may see a flat spot or a spike in your data. This may be caused by the time shift forwards or backwards, respectively. Report data may refer to the old time zone for a short period after you update your settings, until our servers have processed the change.
    • Default page: The web page that loads when a user enters the domain of your site into the address bar. For example, if entering www.example.com loads www.example.come/index.html, then enter index.html in this text box. The page name varies depending on your web server configuration, but the common names are index.html and default.html.
      It's important to correctly identify this page. If you do not know the name of this page, leave the field blank. This option affects how page information appears in your reports.
    • Exclude URL Query Parameters: Any query parameters or unique session IDs (e.g., sessionid or vid) that appear in your URLs that you do not want to see in your reports. Enter as a comma-separated list.

      This setting is case sensitive. There is a 255-character limit.

      Additionally, the parameters you identify here are excluded before filters are applied, so be sure you identify them here as they appear in the original, unfiltered URIs. It has become a common mistake to apply filters, and then return to these settings to identify query parameters as they appear in your filtered reports, thus ignoring the case-sensitive requirement of this setting.

      For example, if the original URI is /Section1?ParameterA=something and you use a filter to change it to /section1?parametera=something for your reports, then when you identify the query parameter here, you need to identify it as ParameterA
    • Currency displayed as: i.e., USD, Yen, Euro, etc.
  5. E-Commerce Settings:
    • Yes, an E-Commerce Site: Enable ecommerce reporting for the view.
    • Not an E-Commerce Site: Disable ecommerce reporting for the view.
  6. AdWords Import & Export Settings:
    • Select the AdWords accounts from which you want to import data. This option only appears if you’ve linked at least one AdWords account to your Google Analytics account. This setting also controls the export of your Analytics metrics, goal conversions, or Ecommerce transactions into your AdWords account (requires additional set up).
  7. Site Search:
    • Site Search tracking: Choose to include or omit site search data in the reports. If you select Do not track Site Search, no data appears in your Site Search report.
    • Query parameter: The letters, words, or symbols that designate an internal query parameter, such as search or query. Enter up to five parameters, separated by commas. Select the check box to strip the parameters from the URLs in your reports.
    • Site search categories: Select this option if you use categories to narrow your internal site search. For example, a clothing retailer might use Pants and Sweaters as categories a user must select from a search menu.
    • Category parameter: (option appears only if Site search categories is selected) Enter the URL category search parameters (i.e., cat).
  8. Click Apply to save the changes.
