Use Google Allo on your computer

You can use your computer to chat with your friends through Allo.

Important: Allo for web only works on a computer. If you view Allo for web on your mobile browser, the app won't work.

What you need to get started

  • Supported browser: Allo for web only works on Chrome, Firefox, or Opera browsers.
  • Allo app on your phone: Make sure you've installed and registered the latest version of Allo
  • Allo for web in mobile app: In your Allo mobile app's menu, check that you see "Allo for web."

Connect your Allo app to the browser

The QR code for Allo for web is unique to your computer and pairs the mobile app to the computer. Allo for web shows what's on the mobile app. So if your phone runs out of battery or you quit the mobile app, Allo for web won't work

  1. On your computer, open Allo for web.
  2. On your phone, open Allo.
    1. Tap Menu and then Allo for web and then Scan QR Code.
    2. Scan the QR code that's on Allo for web. If connected, Allo for web will open on the browser. 

Troubleshoot connection issues

If you're having problems connecting to Allo for web, try the following troubleshooting tips:

  • If your phone is locked, try unlocking the phone.
  • Make sure you're on the latest version of the Allo mobile app and open the app. 
  • Keep your phone and computer on a good Internet connection.
  • Use the Allo for web QR scanner to scan the code that's on the web page.
  • Adjust how close the scanner is to the QR code.
  • Turn off Chrome extensions because they may block Allo for web. Then follow the steps above again.
  • Check your firewall restrictions. Some firewalls may block the web connection.

Sign out of Allo for web

Allo for web won't sign you out of the browser automatically. You need to log out by one of two ways:


If you're on a shared or public computer, remember to sign out when you're done.

  1. On your computer, open Allo for web.
  2. Click your profile icon and then Sign out.

If you forget to log out, you can follow the steps below using the mobile app.

Mobile app

You can remove the web connection at any time through the Allo mobile app.

  1. On your phone, open Allo.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and then Allo for web.
  3. Choose where to sign out: 
    1. One computer: Next to the computer you want to disconnect, tap Delete Delete and then Sign out.
    2. All computers: Tap Sign out of all computers.

Features available only on the mobile app

Some features are only available on the Allo mobile app, including but not limited to:

  • Connecting, switching, or removing Google accounts 
  • Adding or removing members from an existing group
  • Backing up your information
  • Notification and privacy settings
  • Some chat features, like taking a photo, deleting a conversation, blocking contacts, or starting a chat with someone who's not in your contacts
