Chat notifications aren't working

If you're not getting message notifications or they’re delayed, try these tips to fix the problem.

Try common fixes

  • Re-open the app: To start Allo again, quit and re-open the app.
  • Download the latest version of the app: Check that you have the latest version of Allo from the app store. If you don't, the page will say "Update."
  • Connect to Wi-Fi: If you're using Wi-Fi instead of mobile data, make sure your Wi-Fi is on. The steps below may be different depending on your Android device.
    1. Open your device's Settings Settings
    2. Tap Wi-Fi and then Settings Settings.
    3. Turn on Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep.

Try more fixes

If you need more tips, try these:

Turn on Allo notifications

Check that notifications aren't blocked in both these places:

  • In your device settings: Open your device's Settings Settings and then Notifications and then Allo and then Check that Block all is off.
  • In the app: Tap Menu Menu and then Settings and then Notifications and then Turn on Device notifications.
Check chat notifications

If you're not being notified for a specific chat, check its settings:

  1. On your Android phone, open Allo Allo app.
  2. In Allo, open a chat.
  3. Tap the profile icon and then Chat details
  4. Turn off Mute.
Allow Allo to work in the background

Check that you’ve turned on using your data in the background. The steps below may be different depending on your Android device.

  1. Open your device's Settings Settings
  2. Tap Apps and then Data usage.
  3. Turn on Background data.
Turn off "Battery Saver" mode

Battery saver can block Allo from sending notifications. Learn how to turn off battery saver.

Apps not made by Google, like Juice Defender or Antivirus, may not allow notifications to work. Other manufacturers may have their own battery saver modes to check:

  • Sony: Try disabling “Stamina” mode.
  • Huawei: Mark Allo as a protected app through Energy Saver  and then Protected Apps.
  • Xiaomi/MIUI: Check that the power saving modes are off. Also, open the security app and then Permissions and then Add Allo to Autostart. Start the Task Manager, find Allo, and drag it downwards until the padlock icon appears.

If you've tried these steps and still have issues receiving notifications, please send us feedback.
