Back-up or restore Google Allo

To save your Allo messages and media, you can back them up. You can restore that information on a new phone as long as you use the same phone number.

Back up your information

Your Allo backup is stored on your device. Along with your device's copy, if you connect your Google Account, you can also save to your Google Drive.

  1. On your Android phone, open Allo, then Menu Menu.
  2. Tap Settings, then Chat, and then Chat backup
  3. Turn on Device backup. 
    • You can also turn on Google Drive backup and choose your options, like including media. Your backup uses your Google Account's storage space. You have 15 GB of free storage, but you can buy more.
  4. To start the backup right away, tap Back up now

Restore your Allo information

If you backed up to your Google Drive, use the same Google Account as the back-up.

  1. On your Android phone, open Allo.
  2. Follow the verification steps.
  3. When asked, enter the Google Account username and password you used to save the backup.
  4. Tap Restore.

Delete your backup

If you've backed up to your Google Drive, deleting your device's backup will delete it in Drive too.

  1. On your Android phone, open Allo.
  2. Tap Menu Menu, then Settings.
  3. Tap Chat backup, then MoreMore.
  4. Select Delete backup.

Delete in Google Drive

  1. Go to your Google Drive, then Settings Settings and then Settings.
  2. Tap Manage Apps, then Allo.
  3. Select Options, then Delete hidden app data.
