Back-up or restore Google Allo

To save your Allo messages and media, you can back them up. You can restore that information on a new phone as long as you use the same phone number.

Notes:

  • If you want to save a copy of your Allo messages and media to use outside of the app, see "Download your chats or media" below.
  • Incognito chats and settings aren't saved. Learn more about incognito chats.
  • Backup and restore settings are only available on mobile.
  • If you uninstall Allo, backups will be deleted automatically after 40 days.

What happens when Allo is no longer supported

  • All your Allo messages, including incognito messages, as well as your backups will be deleted. Until Allo is no longer supported, you can download your chats or media.
  • Your media already downloaded to your device is in a Google Allo folder in the Google Photos app. To make sure that your photos and video are saved, go to your Allo folder and turn on Back up & sync. Then the photos will back up to your Google Photos. When you uninstall Allo, the Google Allo folder and its photos will stay in your Photos app.
  • If your Assistant has access to your Google Account and Web & App Activity is turned on, your conversations with your Google Assistant will be saved to your account's My Activity page. You can delete your Google Assistant activity any time.
