  1. How Google Alerts work

    By creating a Google Alert, you can get email notifications any time Google finds new results on a topic that interests you.

    For example, you could get updates about a product you like, find out when people post something about you on the web, or keep up with news stories.

  2. Create an alert

    1. Visit Google Alerts.
    2. In the "Create an alert about" box, enter the words you want to get email notifications for.
    3. Click Show options to say how often you get alerts, what types of results you want to get, and more.
    4. Click Create Alert.
    5. Once your alert is set up, you'll start getting emails any time we find new search results for your keywords.

    You can also create an alert by clicking the + next to any of the suggested topics on the Google Alerts page.

  3. Edit an alert

    1. Visit Google Alerts.
    2. Your existing alerts will be listed below "My Alerts."
    3. To the right of the alert you want to edit, click edit .
    4. When you're done making changes to the alert, click Update alert.

    Change delivery time or create a digest

    1. Visit Google Alerts.
    2. In the "My Alerts" section, click settings Settings.
    3. Check the box next to the setting you want to change.
    4. Click Save.
  4. Ways to customize alerts

    How often

    To manage the number of emails you get, choose how often you want to hear about your alerts.

    No matter which option you pick, you won't get an email unless we find new results.

    • As-it-happens: Get an email each time new results are found. Depending on your search terms, you might get multiple emails in a day.
    • At most once a week
    • At most once a day

    Choose to get results from specific sources.

    However, we recommend the "Automatic" option, which provides you with the best results from across the web.


    You'll get alerts for search results in the language you choose.


    You'll get alerts from the country or region you choose.

    How many

    This is another way to manage how many emails you get about your alerts.

    • Only the best results: We send results that are high quality and relevant to your search terms.
    • All results: We send results which are relevant to your search terms, even if they are of low quality.
    Deliver to

    Choose an email to send alerts to, or see your results through an RSS feed.

    When creating an alert linked to a Google Account, you can only use an email address associated with the Google Account.

    If you create an alert without linking it to a Google Account, you'll get an email asking you to confirm the alert.

    Delivery time

    Choose the time of the day to get your alerts.


    Get all alerts in a single email either daily or weekly.

  5. Tips for creating alerts

    • Try to be as precise as possible. The more precise your search terms are, the more relevant your alerts will be.
    • Use quotes around a group of words if you are looking for them together. For example, "White house".
    • Use a minus sign (-) in front of words that you want to leave out. For example, paris -texas.
    • Use the site: operator to limit your search to specific sites. For example, congress site:nytimes.com.
  6. Delete an alert

    1. Visit Google Alerts.
    2. Your existing alerts will be listed below "My Alerts."
    3. To the right of the alert you want to delete, click trash .

    You can also delete an alert by clicking Unsubscribe at the bottom of any of the email alert you receive.

  7. Troubleshoot issues

    I got an email asking me to confirm my Google Alerts

    You'll get a confirmation email if you aren't signed in to your Google Account when you create an alert.

    To verify the alert, open the verification email in your inbox and click the verify link within 24 hours.

    Note: You can only have 3 unverified alerts at a time.

    I got an alert for something that should be removed from Google Search

    If Google Alerts gives you search results that you think should be removed from Google, you can request to have the information removed.

    I stopped getting my alerts

    First, check if there are results for your alert

    1. Visit Google Alerts.
    2. Your existing alerts will be listed below "My Alerts."
    3. Click on the alert you want to see the results for.
    4. Check to see if there are any results for your alert.

    There are no results for my alert

    Try changing these settings to expand your results:

    • How many
    • Language
    • Region

    There are results for my alert, but I'm not receiving them

    If Google Alerts is often can't deliver your alerts to your email address, your alerts will be turned off. You'll see a message on the Google Alerts page letting you know that your alerts are disabled.

    You can re-enable your alerts by clicking Enable.

    • Spam reports: Your email account provider thinks Google Alert emails are spam and isn't delivering them. Contact your email administrator to have Google Alerts excluded from spam filtering. If you use Gmail, add googlealerts-noreply@google.com to your contacts to prevent your alerts being marked as spam.
    • Delivery failures: Emails sent to your address aren't being delivered. This might be because your email address is wrong, there's an error on your email provider's side, or your inbox is full.
