View or change campaign network settings

AdWords Editor supports the following AdWords campaign types:

  • Search Network with Display Select
  • Search Network only
  • Display Network only
  • Display Network only - Mobile app installs
  • Shopping
  • Video
  • Video - Bumper ad
  • Universal app

You can view or change your campaign type in Campaigns or with AdWords Editor export and import files. Not all campaign types can be changed once the campaign has been created and posted.

Edit the campaign type for existing campaigns

To update your campaign type, choose one of the following options:

Option 1: In Campaigns, select one or more campaigns in the data view. In the edit panel, select a new campaign type under "Campaign type." If applicable, enable or disable the "Include search partners" option (available for campaigns targeting the Search Network). Learn more about editing campaign settings.

Option 2: In a CSV import file or the Make multiple changes tool, include the "Campaign type" column and enter the campaign type. Here are some tips for using this option:

  • Campaign type values: Include one of the following values in the “Campaign type” column: Search Network with Display Select, Search Network only, Display Network only, Display Network only - Mobile app installs, Shopping, Video, Video - Bumper ad, and Universal app.
  • “Networks” column: If “Campaign type” isn’t specified, “Networks” will be used to determine the campaign type. Enter one or more of the following values, separated by semicolons: Google Search, Search Partners, Search, Display, Select. For example, a new campaign with Search; Display in the “Networks” column would result in a Search Network with Display Select campaign.

Specify campaign types for new campaigns

When you create a new campaign in AdWords Editor, the following campaign types are available:

  • Search Network only
  • Display Network only
  • Display Network only - Mobile app installs
  • Search Network with Display Select
  • Shopping
  • Video
  • Video - Bumper ad
  • Universal app

Search Network only - Mobile app installs campaigns can only be created within the AdWords web interface.

You can change a newly created campaign's type until you post the campaign for the first time. To see the changes that you can make after you've posted the campaign, refer to the "Changes to your campaign type" table above.

By default, new campaigns use the default campaign type specified in Tools > Settings (Windows) or AdWords Editor > Preferences (Mac). You can change your default campaign settings at any time.

Special requirements for Search campaigns

Search Network only and Search Network with Display Select campaigns have the following restrictions:

  • Ad groups can contain keywords, placements, and search-eligible user lists, but they cannot contain topics, Display only user lists, interest categories, genders, or ages.
  • Placements cannot have bids or bid adjustments.
  • The ad group-level "Flexible reach" setting for placements must be "Target and bid."

To ensure that your campaigns include the appropriate settings, AdWords Editor shows warning messages for any incorrect targeting.
