Choose your device targeting options
Device platform targeting is a campaign settings feature that lets you target your text and image ads either to desktop and laptop computers, to high-end mobile devices with full browsers like iPhones or Android devices, or to tablet devices.
When you create an online ad campaign with AdWords, your ads will automatically show not only on desktop computers but also on high-end mobile devices with full Internet browsers and tablets. On these devices, depending on the settings you've selected, your ads will show on the Google search results page, on the Display Network, as well as on relevant mobile apps. This helps you reach more potential customers, wherever they are. If you choose to show your ads on the Display Network, you'll be able to show your ads to people on specific carriers, networks, operating systems, or on Wi-Fi networks.
You can create a mobile-optimized ad with a message, display URL, and destination URL tailored for mobile devices. To do so, select the "Mobile" checkbox next to the "Device preference" setting. Keep in mind that if your ad groups contain ads that are eligible to appear on all devices and ads that are mobile-optimized, only your mobile preferred ads will show to users on mobile devices. If you're looking to show your ads only on WAP mobile phones, you can create a mobile ad. Your device targeting settings won't affect WAP mobile ads, which show ads on standard mobile phones that use mobile (WAP) browsers. However, carrier targeting set at the campaign level will also apply to any WAP mobile ads in the campaign (in addition to any carrier targets set on individual mobile ad creatives). Keep in mind that there's no need to create specific ads in order for them to show on high-end mobile devices.

These device targeting settings apply to legacy campaigns only. If you've upgraded to enhanced campaigns, you won't be able to choose specific carriers.
Here's how you can make changes to your device targeting settings so that your ads show on mobile and tablet devices.
- Sign in to your AdWords account at https://adwords.google.com.
- On the "Campaigns" page, on either the left side or in the center of the screen, click the name of the campaign you want to adjust.
- Select the "Settings" tab.
- Click edit next to "Devices."
- Select "Let me choose..."
- Check or uncheck the box next to "Mobile devices with full Internet browsers", "Tablet devices with full browsers," or "Desktop and laptop computers." You can select all three if you want.
- Click "Save" when you've made your choice.
