Fix a disapproved ad or extension

If your ad or extension is disapproved, it means that it won't run because it doesn't comply with AdWords advertising policies.

This article explains how to find out why your ad or extension was disapproved and make any required changes.

Choose the AdWords experience you're using. Learn more

  1. Go to the Ads or Ad extensions tab and find the disapproved ad or extension.
  2. In the "Status" column, hover over the white speech bubble Ad disapproval bubble next to "Disapproved" and click the disapproval reason to learn more about the policy.

Note: Some policies apply to the ad’s destination. If your ad complies with the policy, check your destination to see if it’s causing the disapproval and make any necessary changes before proceeding. See below for more information about fixing suspended sites.

  3. Hover over the ad or extension and click the pencil icon Edit.
  4. Edit the ad or extension so that it complies with the policy.
  5. Click Save.
Use the filter to see all disapproved ads at once

If you have a large account with many ads, you might find it helpful to use filters to find all your disapproved ads:

  1. On your account’s "Ads" tab, click Filter, which appears above the statistics table.
  2. Select Create filter.
  3. Select Approval status from the first drop-down menu.
  4. Remove the check marks from all checkboxes except the Disapproved checkbox.
  5. Check the Save filter checkbox in case you want to use this filter again.
  6. Click Apply.

The table will automatically update to show all of your disapproved ads.

Once you edit and save your ad or extension, it will automatically be submitted to us for review. The Status column will change from "Disapproved" to "Under review." When the review is complete, the ad’s status will be updated in your account to display its current approval status.

Note that editing your ad or extension is the same as removing the original and creating a new one, so any related statistics will be reset to zero.

Length of ad review period

We review most ads within 1 business day. Some reviews may take longer if an ad requires a more complex review. If your ad is still under review after 2 full business days, you can contact us for an update.

Submit an entire campaign for review

For some destination-related policies, you can resubmit an entire campaign for review instead of editing individual ads.

Disapprovals caused by ad destinations

Many policies also apply to an ad’s destination, and any sites or apps that violate AdWords policies can lead to ad disapproval. For example, any ads linking to a site that sells guns will be disapproved.

If an ad’s destination is causing it to be disapproved, you’ll need to fix the site or app first.

Once you’ve made the necessary changes to the destination, you can request a review of the site or app. Reviews can take up to 3 business days. Once we confirm that the site or app complies with our policies, we can approve your ads to start running again. If your ads remain disapproved, you can submit them for review by making a small change and saving them.
