Verification for election advertising in the United States (May 2018)

In May 2018, Google will update the political content policy to require that all advertisers running election ads in the United States be verified by Google.

U.S. election ads include any ads that feature a federal candidate or current elected federal officeholder in the United States. Elected federal offices include those of the President and Vice President of the United States, and members of the United States House of Representatives and United States Senate.

To be verified, advertisers must provide proof of identity, information about where they’re based, and confirm that they’re a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident and are legally permitted to run these ads. For more details, see About verification for political advertising in the United States.

Advertisers will be able to request verification starting May 31, 2018.
