Update to Google Ads Personalized Advertising Policy (September 2026)

Google provides translated versions of the Advertising Policies Help Center, though they're not meant to change the content of the policies. The English version is the official language used to enforce Google Ads policies. To view this article in a different language, use the language dropdown at the bottom of the page.

At Google, we prioritize people’s privacy and keep their data secure. Our strict policies, protections, and controls ensure that people’s data is respected and protected, while giving our partners the tools they need to grow.

Starting on October 30, 2026, we’re updating our personalized advertising policy for YouTube inventory to allow for alcohol where locally permitted. This update reflects growing customer interest, emerging categories, and improved controls and data protections.

We continue to prohibit targeting of health information related to alcohol under our Health sensitive interest category. We also maintain age restrictions, restrict sensitive categories, and do not personalize ads for minors. Additionally, people can customize the ads they see and choose topics and brands they want to see fewer ads about in My Ad Center.

With this update, advertisers will be able to personalize ads on YouTube inventory for alcohol advertising, including alcohol, alcohol-related products, and alcohol alternative beverages (detailed here). Personalized ads for alcohol advertising in Egypt, India, Indonesia, and Poland are not yet available with this update.

We will continue to provide information on additional surfaces as they become available.

All alcohol advertisements remain subject to Google Advertising Policies, as well as local law and regulations.
