Update to the 'Inappropriate content: Child sexual abuse imagery policy' (CSAI) (October 2025)

Google provides translated versions of our Help Centre, although they are not meant to change the content of our policies. The English version is the official language that we use to enforce our policies. To view this article in a different language, use the language drop-down at the bottom of the page.

In October 2025, we will update the language in the CSAI ads policy to improve clarity and transparency.

The policy header will be updated to 'Child sexual abuse and exploitation' (CSAE). The change to CSAE aligns with industry best practices and provides advertisers with transparency regarding the policy's comprehensive scope, which covers various forms of abuse and exploitation.

The CSAE policy will now read:

The following is not allowed:

red x mark Content promoting or facilitating the sexual abuse or exploitation of minors or content that otherwise sexualises or condones behaviour which endangers children (e.g. sexual extortion, grooming, trafficking).

red x mark Content promoting underage or suspected underage sexual themes (whether simulated or real), including verbal description or visual depiction of a minor of any kind, including text, drawings, cartoons, computer generated content, photoshopped content, sculptures, paintings and other written or visual formats.

Examples (non-exhaustive):

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM)
  • Offering, advertising or soliciting CSAM
  • Instructions on how to create CSAM or how to abuse, groom or sexually extort a child
  • Under 18s teen-themed pornography
  • Child grooming
  • Sextortion
  • Content that sexualises minors
  • Trafficking of a child

As at 22 October 2025, violations of this policy will be considered egregious. If we find violations of this policy, we will remove such content and suspend the Google Ads accounts without prior warning, which will restrict capacity to advertise with Google Ads again. Action may also include reporting to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
